He has done nothing constructive for the opposition, so it does not matter what his motives are. In fact the longer he sticks around do nothing but getting into other people's way, the more it confirms that he is being rewarded for doing precisely that.

You are absolutely right. There are many others in this 'career' too. Salary/allowance more than enough to feed a family of 3. Can be a full-time job.
