Since we have discussed about the Culture of Singapore,
I would like to know if having a Culture of it's own in a Country or Community important?
What are the Pros and Cons of having one, if any?

My views;

Pros
I think it's very important;
Form of Identity, stronger than the PINK IC and RED PASSPORT.
Understandings among people within the Country or Community.
Helps a lot in Business Dealings within the Country or Community.

Cons - Limiting Business Exposure.
Ya, the hell someone might say it's hindering the growth of SG, therefore we need to welcome and accept others' Culture. That's what the PAPpies are doing. Anyway, through my experience. It's damn fucking difficult to suck $$$ out of these foreigners as compare to the Local. Having know their Culture, singing the same tune as them doesn't really work. Bear in mind, the main reasons the foreigners come to SG is because of the Opportunities, Stability and Security that we can offered to them to protect and enhance their wealth. So to speak, they are here to made $$$ or more $$$. These fucking newcomers are damn calculative. Well, i have multi-billion clients from PRC who grabs every little opportunities they have when they are in town to shop in HERMES and SINCERE FINE WATCHES. Reason? I guess most people know why. Branded goods are damn EX in PRC.
Please don't tell me, they LOVE Singapore! WIN WIN Situation for both Locals and Foreigners? Maybe to some.:D

Frankly speaking, makes not much differences to me having such business exposure. Monetary wise, Yes!
Quality of Life? Far off as compared to the past where life is more Simple.

In this thread i promise i won't fuck anyone's Mother. You can come and Fuck my Mother, I won't Fuck your Mother back but i will remember YOU! And i will HUNT you down.:mad::oIo::D

Singapore can consider very unique culture. Or so called MIX culture. Singapore just like one small state city or United Nation City State having all mix type of language,religious, race, foods and so on in just less than 700sqkm.
There no others place like in Singapore have so many mix type of things. Outcome all are not so original.
Just like Japanese, Italy.French all food will carry mix taste of cross culture.

Are Singaporeans cultured?

Or they are just sheeps to the Lee Regime?

Are Singaporeans cultured?...

Singapore is far from a monolithic society.
Further fragmenting Singapore mainstream culture will perhaps work towards reducing locals' aversion towards FT population growth.

sinkie culture, like everything else can be slowly improved. Some good traditions can be retained....for example the Peranakaans 'soja' to their elders

during CNY or on the elders' birthdays......wedding tea ceremonies. Other aspects of our culture ....we tend to be more tolerant...eg when neighbours

make more noise than they should ( ang mos tend to complain straight off ).

But other parts could be improved eg after a tiff ang mos usually are better at shaking hands and making up and really put the event behind them

whereas sinkies tend to keep it inside them for a long time.

So if habits, outlook , behaviour can be changed for the better then as a community we would become better ...then when this sets in properly then

culture becomes better....and culture definitely is an important component of national identity

Food! Yes! How the hell did i missed this!:*::p Yes, the taste is localised, very much different as compared to where it originated. Culture playing apart in the change too.

That's what you saw in movies, real life? I beg to differ. Legal industry in Ang Mo countries is a Multi-Billion Industry, my friend. Shake hands and problem solved? How many times can you recall when an Ang Moh country is not involved in a War?:rolleyes:

Having business dealings with foreigners on our shores do not necessarily dilute our culture. During our early years, we attracted foreign investments especially in the manufacturing sectors. Foreigners set up plants here, which led to job creation for Sinkies. In addition, these semi-skilled and skilled jobs also drove up the demand for higher education. The transfer of technologies was also beneficial to Sinkies as Sinkies could still carry on even after the foreigners packed their bags and returned to their countries. The Thai construction workers we employed were hardworking and did not get into trouble. They contributed a lot to Sinkieland''s infrastructure. During these years, Sinkies were proud to call our flag our own and enjoyed the benefits of being first-class citizens. The country had a real culture. I am sure many here can still remember our old army slogan: "The Army: A Career that Commands Respect". And many parents saw NS as an important part of our defence and national identity. "From boys to men". Such mentality would not have been possible without a strong culture.

Having a strong national culture does not erode a country's business culture. It may even help business! The Japs' business culture is a reflection of their national identity. Japanese companies are known to support their suppliers and partners, who are predominantly Japanese. Instead of the distributive relationship practised by Sinkie companies, in which one seeks to exploit the other for maximum gains, Japanese companies help their suppliers to grow. This may sound illogical, but if you improve the efficiency of your suppliers, would it not lead to lower cost of goods, which ultimately benefits your company? Would they not be motivated to provide you excellent services? A long term and integrative business relationship is better than short term exploitation. Ultimately, they understand that they are all Japs, and they are proud of this fact. Are Sinkies proud of being Sinkies?

Quality of products are sometimes compromised due to such collaboration and pride the Japs have when options are being limited. Quality issues are sometimes solved in a bar/nightclub or a call from the higher echelon. I do agree that with you that a long term and integrative business relationship is better than short term exploitation, provided that the fundamental of this collaboration is being upheld.

A culture of mediocrity and philistinism. That's all there is to Singapore. :rolleyes:
