Mousa Ghazanfarabadi is not an “Islamophobe.” He is a Muslim imam, a man who has dedicated his life to studying Islam and understanding it properly. Given the sanction honor killing has in Islamic law, it’s not all that surprising. According to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law. In this case the victim was the murderer’s daughter, a victim to the culture of violence and intimidation that such laws help create.

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.

“A Daughter Is Beheaded, and Iran Asks if Women Have a Right to Safety,” by Farnaz Fassihi, New York Times, June 7, 2020

…“The laws for violence against women are enough,” Mousa Ghazanfarabadi, a conservative cleric and lawmaker, told local media. “We cannot execute Romina’s father because it’s against Islamic law.”…

Law of equivalence

2:178 O you who trust it is prescribed upon you the law of equivalence in murdering. The free with the free - and the servant with the servant - and the woman with woman. Thus whoever is pardoned for it from his brother of anything - indeed follow it with conspicuous - and fulfil to him with the best. That is the leniency from your Lord and mercy. Thus whoever exceeds the limit after that - surely for him a very painful punishment.

2:263 Conspicuous words and forgiveness is better than charity followed by disorder - and God is very rich – very lenient.

Then that is by itself discriminatory and racist! It should be called OBLM. O for only!

it is right? sickening how people get really far far overboard with picking a flavour of the day and running with it. I brought it up with a few white people a few days ago and they were shocked at the concept that all lives could matter.

shake my head.
