Two hikers from Singapore have reportedly died after the volcanic eruption at Mount Dukono in Indonesia.

The deaths were reported by people who were with the hikers, BBC reported Erlichson Pasaribu, the police chief of North Halmahera, as saying.

Officials have yet to confirm the deaths, however, BBC said.

The BBC added that there are other injuries, with many believed to be tourists. At least nine are from Singapore.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with rescuers still making their way to the hikers trapped on the volcano.

Reuters reported that the active volcano located in North Maluku province erupted at 7:41 am local time on May 8.

According to Indonesia's volcanology agency, the volcano spewed volcanic ash as high as 10km into the sky.
So sad. If only they had learned to enjoy sitting on the couch, drink beer, smoke cigarettes while watching TV, they'd still be alive.

If hiking in Sinkieland, they would be killed by crocodiles, otters or a falling tree branch.

If your time is up you will die, and you cannot dodge Death.

wow .... need to dig out a whole chunk of volcano rock to return them back .... they can be backfill into a LTA road hole as grave ... just name the road on top with their name will do .... :whistling:

Maybe already petrified into stone, might as well become Human Sculpture

They found the body

sinkies need to practise rescue and recover ops for survivors and bodies respectively since its surrounded by volcanoes and one nasty super volcano. all it takes is the overdue super volcano to erupt and the ash cloud typically floats eastwards due to earth rotation and wind direction. a massive (hot) ash cloud with pumice can cover almost all of west ml and of course sg. this happens every hundred thousand years, giving inhabitants in the vast archipelago including sg a false sense of peace and quiet. may be its waiting for sinkie properties to bubble and peak then kaboom! hoon (ash) ah!

I am just amazed at the fun you guys here are getting out of the deaths of these young men.
Imagine the months of planning excitement and practice these guys must have been through only to die and be mocked at by fellow Sinkies.

Remember your next visit to the local Hawker Centre might be your last - you may just be struck down by a car.
Then you will also be laughed at by others of similar thinking and ideas and the process life and death goes on.
Are you a Psycho?
People who laugh at or mock the death of others often exhibit traits associated with profound insecurity, a lack of empathy, or a need to assert superiority. Such behavior, while frequently perceived as cruel and inhuman, can stem from varied, complex, and often dysfunctional psychological states. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Here is a breakdown of the character traits and psychological drivers behind this behavior:

1. Psychological Motivators and Traits
  • Schadenfreude: This is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction when learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.
  • The "Dark Triad": Higher levels of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy are associated with increased pleasure at the misfortune of others.
  • Insecurity and Unhappiness: Individuals who haven't processed their own pain often lash out, mock, and belittle others to manage their own internal unhappiness.
  • Dehumanization: By removing the human element from the deceased, the mocker creates a mental shield, reducing the person to a caricature or an enemy, which justifies the mockery.
  • Katagelasticism: A psychological condition characterized by ajoy in laughing at others, where the individual actively seeks opportunities to mock. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

2. Contextual and Environmental Factors
  • Defense Mechanism (Nervousness): Sometimes laughter is not a sign of malice, but a nervous, involuntary reaction to extreme discomfort, shock, or anxiety. This is often referred to as "gallows humor" when used to cope with high-stress situations.
  • Inappropriate Affect: In some cases, this is a neurological issue (e.g., Pseudobulbar Affect) or a symptom of a mental health condition, where the expressed emotion is not appropriate to the context, such as laughing when a loved one dies.
  • Social Conditioning: People may mock to fit in with a group that encourages a "us vs. them" mentality. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

3. Ethical and Moral Assessment
  • Heartless and Apathetic: Often described as a lack of compassion, this behavior is frequently viewed as a sign of deep immaturity and poor character.
  • Antisocial Behavior: Those who engage in this often exhibit antisocial tendencies, causing pain to the family and friends of the deceased. [1, 2, 3]
While some forms of "gallows humor" can be a legitimate, albeit dark, way to cope with trauma, directly mocking a specific person's death generally indicates a severe lack of empathy or a conscious choice to be cruel.
