SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old Indonesian man has been charged with extortion.

Amir Adriyansyah is believed to have threatened to post a 39-year-old woman's semi-nude pictures on the Internet if she did not hand him S$20,000.

Amir, who will be remanded at the Jurong Police Division, allegedly committed the offence at Fragrance Hotel at Joo Chiat Road on June 28.

It is believed the woman handed him S$12,500 because of his alleged threat.

Amir's case will be mentioned again on December 12.

If convicted of extortion, he can be jailed up to seven years and caned.
