1. The 44,500-tonne INS Vikramaditya, procured from Russia, is one of the newest acquisitions of the Indian Navy and the most powerful symbol of its military reach. INS Vikramaditya joined the Indian Navy on November 16, 2013 and was commissioned by former defence minister AK Antony last November at Russia's Sevmash shipyard.

2. Vikramaditya, a floating airfield, has an overall length of about 284 metres and a maximum beam of about 60 metres, stretching as much as three football fields put together.

3. Standing about 20-storey tall from the keel to the highest point, the ship has a total of 22 decks and carries 1,600 personnel.

4. Its logistics requirements include nearly 100,000 eggs, 20,000 litres of milk and 16 tonnes of rice per month. The vessel is capable of sustaining at sea for about 45 days.

5. It is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier which was purchased by India from Russia for the Indian Navy in 2013. The ship has been renamed in honour of Vikramaditya, a legendary 1st century BC emperor.

6. Originally built as Baku and commissioned in 1987, the carrier served with the Soviet (until the dissolution of the Soviet Union) and Russian Navies before being decommissioned in 1996, it being too expensive to operate.

No chinaman dare play cricket with an indian.

I wonder why Russia would sell the aircraft carrier to India when its obvious India has nothing to offer besides a whole bunch smooth talking jargon spewing shitskin bankers and IT managers.

Not to mention their country is totally incompetent despite achieving independence 60 years ago....just look at their military R&D u wanna laugh...china's rockets and jets looks sophisticated compared to Indian junk.

The only conclusion is the aircraft carrier is a piece of junk and only India was desperate enough to bid for it.

why are they always using old soviet submarines and aircraft carriers?
I thought indian ships should be safe for vegetarians. Why do they serve eggs? Shouldn't it be dhall and chupatties? I love Dhall and chupatties.

A ship filled with rodents and vermins, time to call in the pest control

It was actually a scrape metal lying in the shipyard. Russia offered the carrier to India FOC on condition that
1. they pay the cost for refurbishing and retrofitting of equipments.
2. Procure the carrier based fighters from Russia.

Cheapstake Indian thought it really FOC but after paying a big sum of money for upgradings, the Russian kept increasing the cost and delay the project. In the end, the total bill was said to be enough to built a brand new carrier. Instead what Indian got was an old carrier.

Can the carrier withstand strong wind at the speed of 200 n/hr blows?

the question is can the carrier withstand 50,000 ah nehs clinging to the side of it and the flight deck and the control tower like its a train to mumbai without capsizing?the carrier might become too top heavy.

They can't even feed their own people and they are spending so much on arms!

The Russians did it to both China and India. Both of them have a an aircraft carrier built by the Russians. The Indians being lazy let the Rusians do the complete refitting while Chinese being more hardworking complete the last part themselves.

No point trying to figure out which is the bigger idiot. The Russians were much smarter in both instances. They got paid for what was waste.
