This is always the case here. Whenever it involves a keling that fucks up hey somehow the blame won't fall on them. It's always some other factor.

If it was a chinese stall involved. A few racist remarks would be in the making saying chinese are filthy, chinese are disgusting and the stall would be blamed 10000%.

I can even make a bet on this cos i would win. :mad:

You know I just cannot understand some people, saw the news last night on this incident and all the victims interviewed said that the material gravy smelt off and tasted different from usual, more salty. So why the hell did they consume that gravy? I would have taken the rojak gone back to the hawker stall and asked the rojak hawker to taste it himself and also ask for a refund.

The moral of this story is to stand up for your consumer rights and also not be so stingy and tight fisted. Even if the hawker would not provide a refund I still would not consume the suspect rojak, $4-$5 is just not worth the risk as can be seen from what transpired. No refund make a complaint to NEA.

Also any food that smells off or taste unusual even by just abit don't take a risk whether outside or at home or anywhere for that matter. Er on the side of caution, don't be stingy and $$$ tight fisted, better to dispose of the suspect food rather than pay the price with your health.

I concur, next time a woman gets raped it's not the rapist's fault it's the woman's fault for dressing too sexily and tempting the rapist. Of course you would use this argument ESPECIALLY if the rapist was a keling. :mad:

Cases of food poisoning in Peesai are happening with greater frequency n severity. Direct consequence of overpopulation and the Familee's sucking efficiency, which results in exorbitant rentals and businesses forced to cut corners to survive. Btw, some jiat liao bee French chef wannabe works in NEA, right? Is he back at his desk?

Why should the decision be left to the stall owner? What are the jiat liao bees in NEA doing? Bz collecting rentals and protection fees?

The Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency jointly inspected the stall on Saturday and collected samples. MOH, which has received feedback from the hospitals and from stall patrons, said preliminary investigations showed the Rojak to be the suspected cause of the outbreak.

The stallholder and his assistant have been asked to go for screening at the Communicable Diseases Centre. The stallholder told authorities that his stall would be closed for the next two days

is MOH retarded? What do u mean ask them to go for screening? They should arrest the stall holder and assistant on the spot and force them back to the lab for screening

I patronize this stall once and I notice they did not refried my selected items although the items looks like they have been fried quite recently.

Not sure is this their usual practice or only during crowded times?

This stall I patronise at least once a mth. They also sell mee siam. Nice guy. Dont want the egg, they would charge u less 50 cents. Been around for ages. Too bad end up such a mess. Hate to see this stall close.

Filthy hawker habits must be checked

I AM saddened by yesterday's report, 'Woman dies in mass food poisoning case', of how a customer died and another miscarried after eating at a famous Indian rojak stall in Geylang Serai.
I hope food stall operators will stop the practice of selling unsold food over a few days. Allow me to describe what I have seen Indian rojak and prata stall operators doing over many years.

After lunch, prata stall operators can often be seen scraping the dried gravy stuck to the sides of their huge pots back into the gravy.

They add more water, and at times more spices, then reheat it so that they need not cook another pot to last until the end of the day.

As for Indian rojak stallholders, they are fond of reheating or repeatedly frying unsold items left over from previous days. The bean curd and potato sometimes smell sourish - an indication that the food is not fresh.

Often, to camouflage the stale food, these operators are generous with chopped onions and green chillies. They also add water to their gravy like some prata stallholders.

These unhygienic practices are often carried out during off-peak periods.

Unlike restaurants and bigger establishments, hawker centres do not have kitchens with doors, so these filthy practices can be observed if one wants to.

Are such unhygienic practices also carried out by other food establishments that have kitchens hidden away from the public eye?

Perhaps the authorities could carry out impromptu checks on food samples every month, and not only after episodes when the operators are found guilty.

Do not merely suspend the operator's licence but revoke it.

I also suggest that errant stallholders be made to pay a hefty compensation to victims in non-fatal cases, and even much more to those who have lost loved ones.

I visited the stall after reading rave reviews about its fare. But what remains etched in my memory is not the food, but the appallingly unhygienic condition of the entire market and hawker centre. I spotted two fat rats scurrying around the stall and no one seemed to mind.'


I patronize this stall once and I notice they did not refried my selected items although the items looks like they have been fried quite recently.

Not sure is this their usual practice or only during crowded times?

May be it's time to take a serious look on how the indian rojak and prata being handle during the cooking.

Is using hand the only way to do it ??
Can the indian community brainstorm such handling method ??

This time round, is no joke, 2 persons had die !! because of Indian Rojak.

I have not eat Indian Rojak and prata for some many years already.

This will definitely affect all stores in the future !
