I don't lack of jobs is the problem, it is the abundance of jobs. However, I am aware Singaporeans feel that many well-paid jobs are taken by foreigners. Indians form a small contingent of these foreigners. But Indian are not taking Singaporean jobs, they are taking MNC jobs and these jobs are allocated by MNC's not Singapore. Singapore local companies and Singaporean run businesses don't hire Indians they hire PRC's much more. The local shops or food courts don't hire Indians but they hire China PRC's. Indians are hired in highly specialist jobs or highly labour oriented jobs and it is not true that all 400,000 Indian Expats are doing well monetarily. Infact, they are doing much worse because they end up paying more and have very low pays as labourers and as PR's they end up buying Condo's and pay three times more for education and find it hard to find cheap Indian food in food courts here.Most Indians tend to be Vegetarian and it very difficult to find cheap Indian Vegetarian. The bottomline is we are paying much more for less, and shouldn't feel guilty to spend good time in both India and Singapore. Chinese PRC's have no shame neither do Europeans, so why do Singaporeans like to single out Indians. That's because we are easier to attack. And yes, any sensible person would know by now that caste plays very little role in Modern India these days.

Mr. Tan,

When someone insults me and my country it is my issue and not a local or local only issue.

For me even though the cost of living is high, it is worth it. Singapore to me is a nation of promise. Where I can find security for my family and tremendous entertainment. I beleive it is one of the best cities of the world to live in. I have come to appreciate and admire Singapore. I am here because Singapore has accepted me with open hands. However, there is an awkwardness when people stereotype me and insult my country people and my country.

I did start this trail of remarks, people were insulting my country and I thought I should write something to defend ourselves.

I think Singaporeans should be proud that Expats love to make Singapore their place of residence.

His Excellency MM Lee and the PAP, have made a small island like Singapore a global soft power to reckon with. In no other part of the world is this possible. We as Indians respect that. It is a achievement worth commeding. PAP has been pratical and realistic in their approach in building Singapore. I think the people should honour their effort, however you are right it is not in my place to comment on Singapore Politics. Singapore is a shining example of a model city, however comments on this article don't suggest that it's people truly understand how hard older Singaporeans have worked to secure the honour they have in this world. In any other nation out there, as a PR you deserve to pay more than the local. Over here, the difference between PR and citizen is so minimal that people are complaining that the MOM is dishing out PR papers like toilet paper. Let's face it - most PRs I know tend to stick to being PRs for the fact so that they can abstain from sending their children to NS and using this country to accumulate wealth here so that they can send $$ back and build their covetous retirement village when they retire.
We're providing a place of comfort and security here where food here is cheap compared to western places like UK or the states which is why so many of the Indians love to come here to work plus the fact that travel back to India is also cheap. With all these advantages and even to the extent of locals being displaced in job opportunities for PRs, surely putting a little back into the economy is not a big deal, is it ?
As someone once pointed out - a PR should be the stepping stone to becoming a citizen. It should not be used as a vehicle for selfish reasons or an intent to exploit. It is because of opportunists from all over who do not share the concept of "give a little and take a little" that makes locals like us treat them with both disgust and disdain.

No mention that NS disadvantaging Sporeans and nowhere in the world is there a govt that is so outrageously favouring FTrash and FTrash allow to discriminate against the citizens.
