<cite style="display: block; font-style: normal; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 4px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 4px; margin-left: 0px; ">PM Lee at PAP's annual convention.</cite>
PM Lee has pledged that the People's Action Party (PAP) will fight to win back Aljunied GRC.
At the party's annual convention yesterday, he said, "We will not abandon Aljunied. We will not abandon our activists in Aljunied GRC,
in the five branches,"
Even though they lost to the Workers' Party (WP) with 54.7% of the valid vote, PM Lee said that: "the PAP does not intend to give the Workers' Party team in Aljunied a free run... We will fight on and eventually we will win back Aljunied."
Another highlight of the convention saw Member of Parliament (MP) Inderjit Singh, talking about how the PAP "got carried away" with policies that had good intentions, but did not improve lives of the Singaporeans "as much as we thought they did."
The MP stated that housing and economic growth policies were mishandled by the PAP.
He lamented that the government appeared to be "in a state of denial" and was simply quoting statistics to show that housing remains affordable and sufficient.
This was however, different from the experiences of many on the ground.
He felt that the "growth-at-all-costs" policy for Singapore's economy lacked political judgement, and admitted that the PAP government had expected economic growth to benefit all Singaporeans, directly or indirectly, over a period of time.
But things did not turn out as the PAP expected.
