Illegal gambling den in Geylang busted by Police

SINGAPORE - Two men aged 43 and 59 were arrested on Monday for operating and gaming in an an illegal gambling den in Geylang.
The four hour raid on a private apartment was conducted by officers from the Bedok Police Division.
Initial investigations have revealed that the 59- year old suspect had rented the unit for the purpose of gambling while the other suspect is believed to be the patron. They will be charged in court on March 20.
Twenty-one modified computers and cash amounting to about $1,440 were seized as case exhibits. In the media statement on Tuesday, the Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police How Kwang Hwee, said "Owners have a responsibility to ensure that their premises are not used for illegal activities. Those who allow their residential units to be used for unlawful activities can expect to be taken to task."
Anybody caught operating a Common Gaming House is liable on conviction to a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, with a prison term not exceeding three years. People caught gaming in a Common Gaming House will be guilty on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
