If you stay near Elias mall (Pasir Ris), consider supporting this barber shop owned by an elderly couple struggling to pay their rent :

Facebook shoutout by Lim Merlloyd :

While having my haircut, the elderly owner received a call on his phone and he spoke in mandarin to the caller. From his response, I can roughly tell that the caller is the landlord and is chasing for rent. The old man kept apologising and explained that business isn't too good recently. He then ended the call and tried not to look affected as he continued with my haircut. But deep down i knew that he's feeling helpless and stressed out. I really sympathise with them given the fact that they're old and they have to struggle to make ends meet. Also, the phone that the old man was using was an old nokia model. Even maids these days own better mobile phones than him. So to those who live in the east, help him out and visit his shop for a haircut, it's really not that bad at $12 per haircuit for males. His shop is called The Hair Secret and it is located at 625 Elias Rd, Elias Mall, level 2. He opens from 11am to 8:30pm everyday.

Fuck the landlord! Why not service his customers in his pigeon hole? Save on rent. Charge $7 still got profit. Advertise on the internet, door to door or mail flyers.

There are 2 other barber shops in the same building run by China PDMM, one $8.00 and the other $7.95. Further down in the central where there are 3 major coffeeshops, there are 2 other Chinese-run barber shops, same pricing at $8.00 per head.

Another two Malay barber shops charging $10 per head.

Only those Japan inspired 10-minute barber with vacuum cleaner type charge $12.

What the old couples really need is some education in marketing and pricing, not support. They will be wiped out soon by competition from China FTs. Unfortunately, this is an area where I don't side local citizens. If FTs can make goods and services cheaper, I will utilize their goods and services.
