Plenty of govt and private contractors working behind the scenes for all kinds of jobs. Horticulture, IT, food, logistics etc.

Where have you been? Under a rock? After HDB and CPF, the SAF/MINDEATH/Military/NS is the biggest money maker for the PAP. Without NS, the most the SAF will field is 2 or 3 infantry regiments. With NS, they have 10 infantry regiments, plus another 20 minimum in reservist. Not to mention all the other formations like armour, combat engineers, arty, etc. also similarly multiplied several fold. Every one of these units need to buy weapons, ammo, gear, etc. Lots of business for ST. Plus they have to be fed, more money for SFI, which is another GLC. Then the clothing, boots, and other equipment also goes to GLC. Construction of army camps and purchasing of vehicles, petrol, etc all the logistics needed for these extra unnecessary units all make money for someone. U think the PAP set budget for $15 billion in defence is to shake leg? On top of that all these extra army units need to be run by a scholar, even reservist units. Which helps the PAP in grooming and identifying the next generation of their leaders. You better believe NS is generating revenue for GLCs and other MIWs that got the many MINDEATH contracts.

Every soldier armed with remote devices that can activate every kind of weaponry, should a war break, not to mention we have flying clone troopers going about detectin suspicous enemies. Besides, the foreign enemies are already in our backyward. with the lockdown they have been fenced-in. No worry.
