If cannot predict the future, what are we paying million $$ for then?

Till now, the ruling party has been emphasizing:
1. Securing our future;
2. Dark storms ahead; and
3. Creating jobs for all

But unlike past GEs, these promises are not backed by any concrete plans. The only recurring rhetoric once again is:

"Vote for us, because we have a track record, we have delivered in the past".

While it is true that the PAP government did a good job in running the country, there are gaps and blindsides, such as the current high costs of living.

To these, the PAP response was "changes in the economy was too quick...but who can predict (the future)?".

So that leaves us wondering... ...if we are paying high-flying ministers to "deliver results", to secure the future because there are dark clouds looming, why are we accepting excuses like "no one can foresee the future"? Or worse still, are their heads flying so high that they can't even see what's on the ground?

If that's the case, the options for Singaporeans could be to:
• Hire lesser-paid ministers, since no one can predict, and hence, secure the future anyway. Heck, even Citicorp's CEO took a US$1 salary all year when things were tough for them;
• Hire ministers NOT for their track record, but for their innovative abilities to deliver innovative solutions come what may in the future. After all, past performances does NOT guarantee future success. In a fast-changing world like ours, what made you successful in the past is getting more unlikely to make you successful in the future.

One PAP candidate said that the wisest comment by a resident was "there's no better government in the world" than the PAP government. That could be true (though people from other countries may beg to differ), but the comment itself smacks of complacency.

If we have "dark storms ahead", and hence rely on "good track records", that's complacency, and that will be disastrous.
