SINGAPORE: From January 2, parents will be required to declare the race of their newborns during birth registration.

They will need to fill in an additional field under "Race" in the Birth Report Form.

In a statement, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said this offers parents of mixed race marriages the flexibility and choice to decide and declare their child's race upon birth.

For example, a Caucasian-Chinese couple may choose to have the race of their child recorded as Caucasian, Chinese or Eurasian.

However, if parents are unable to decide on the child's race during birth registration, the race will be recorded provisionally to follow that of the father.

This is until the child turns 15 years old and is required to register for an identity card.

Parents may still change the child's race in the ICA's record at any time before their child turns 15.

The option to amend the child's race in the ICA's record can be processed at the ICA Building or at the child's school.

Any change will be effected only with the consent of both parents.

The correct terminology should be ETHNICITY and NOT RACE.

There is only one RACE: HUMAN RACE (Homo-Sapiens). Multi-Ethnicity (eg Eurasian for Euro-Asian children, Afri-Asian, Amer-Asian etc) should be used in cross-ethnic combinations which we called CHAP CHENG

Why the necessity to state one's race?

I always wondered why we had a column which said Dialect Group as well.

These are all tools for racial discrimination.

What is wrong with that? When a request is reasonable, don't bang it, fuckholes!

Another uniquely Singaporean trait - the only country in the world that requires people to be classified by "race"

it is correct terminology

race
· n.
1 each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics.
Ø racial origin or distinction.
Ø an ethnic group.
Ø a group descended from a common ancestor.

Yes they need this because there are too many mix blood bastards in SGP these days how to record their race later? We are no just multi-racial these days, we are multi-national and multi-blood and multi-bastardized CUNTry! :(

those mixed marriages types must have brought this up to the govt ... not those of us of pure race ...

esp if they have one angmo parent but somehow they don't look angmo ... then they'll choose the angmo surname over the asian one ... huh ...

or the mother is angmo, father is asian ... then they put race as 'caucasian' instead of traditionally following the father's race ... what losers they are, i can read them like a book ...
