but... i noticed a high proportion of security guards ..are Indians...

You are not racist. You are just right in your observation. And there are quite a number of Malaysian Indians.

money changer : mostly indians
despatch rider / delivery man : mostly malay

actually, a mixed bunch of races. Alot of retired uncles...that i wonder how they can run after thieves. or they are there as wayang only?

back in the 80s i used to see a lot of bayee as security guard, today less of them already.

If you guys are questioning their ability, maybe they should start hiring pinoy security guards. Pinoys have lotsa experience with security guards. In Pinoy land, even freaking Starbucks and KFC have their own security guards

A black face is a strong deterrent against crime.

"If you misbehave I'll get that Indian man to catch you!"

China dun have security guard in Starbucks or KFC. Pinoyland still 1 up them, some more Pinoy land security guard double up as doorman and waiter. And your story reminds me of my office security guard in India. The bugger sits right outside the office which is right in front of the elevator. Every time someone come out of the elevator he has to stand up and the place is quite busy. I look at him like seeing someone doing squats(exercise) all day sibei jialat.

The building of my workplace is guarded by 2 Malay Uncles, an Indian Uncle and a Chinese Uncle.. All Muti racial line up..:D Very easy job for them.. Just check and write down vehicles number coming in and out of my company's big yard.. Night time they would usually sleep in their aircon guard post.. All 4 of them Sporeans.. Nice chaps them all.. Sometimes I would buy them Kopi or teh tarik when I kena work night.. During my free time I would have a chat with them at their guard post.. But back then there was a young Malaysian Keling from Perak working as guard here at my place.. Fucking Yaya, and worse this farker was being paid some '' extra '' allowance by my Asst GM to report to him of any staff who left from the office bit early during night shift... To teach this Malaysian Pundek a lesson., me and my senior Marine engineer punctured the tyres of his Cub Chai few times..:D Then one day he was sacked by his security company for not coming to work for 3 days..Good riddance to that Malaysian thrash..

The Bayi go way back, they used to guard commercial premises in the past, especially those around boat quay, Raffles Place etc., they sleep on the Indian Hemp bed ( what's the name I have forgotten) and even got themselves immortalized in a Chartered Bank Adverisement in the past... "Get to know the Giant quickly, big & strong & always friendly, The Chartered Bank" it shows a Mr.Singh opening the bank door for customers.

I remember the goldsmith shops used to have them, holding a shotgun & banks, if I am not mistaken. Nowadays, they are mostly Malaysians Indians, Malays or even Chinese, a small number are local retired Chinese. But I have seen overweight ones at MRT stations & even rotund Indian woman. One really wonder if something "terrorizing" occur, can they run?

Not only security guards are from Malaysia.. Our Prison Service also employs many Malaysians Indians and every year the Malaysian papers will advertise vacancies for the Junior Officers post.. Many of them will then make their way to the Prisons HQ at Changi for the walk in interview..

last time our security guards were authorized to carry pump guns, especially those helping to deliver cash. but something happened which involved some death and pump guns were disallowed. :*:

but if u look at malaysia truly asia, the private security guards at jewellery shop carries pump guns.
