Not a criminal case, no discernible deception etc. if you think that she indeed has money or assets, you might want take a legal suit. Those who have money or have access to money will avoid legal as the costs can be substantial. Just make sure that there is evidence of you transferring the money to her etc. And that it is not a gift. A lawyers demand letter costs a few hundred, going thru the process without a trial is a couple of thousand and worth it. For many people, going to a lawyer is a mental block. I know that many dare not buy private property because of the legal process even though they have the money.

My take. Sua lah. Take it as expensive lesson for you and move on. Be prepare to write off loans if you want to lend money to friends and relatives.If still don't feel good. Just take it as a donation to the unfortunates.
