Was bored, so I figured I just see the hype since I am pretty much a mountain tortise when it is about YOG. Did not even know there is a YOG song called "Everyone". (Seldom watch local channels)

Most laughable shit ever. $380 million for such a crap opening ceremony.

First up, the Chinese/Malay/Indian skit and dances are really saturated and stale, as Singaporeans, we probably have seen more than enough in all the NDPs of Chinese dances, Malay dances and Indian dances. But guess what, it is the still the same idea for YOG.

Second, the songs played were all foreign songs. No local songs at all. Either you have Black Eyed Peas - I Got This Feeling or the infamous Wonder Girls - Nobody. Singapore has successfully showed that Sinkie youths are foreign-worshippers, only listening to American or Korean songs. If I was in charge, I will have outsourced the creation of songs to local musicians instead of using foreign, since we showcasing Singapore.

Lastly, the organisation is bad, especially at the flag ceremony. The flag-bearers of some countries are at lost where to go and the Argentinian flag-bearer stood in the middle of the stage for some time, before realizing he is supposed to follow the placard holder. Some of the flag-bearers are equally clueless and went in the opposite direction. So much for first-class event, I feel like I am watching the rehearsal instead.

I knew it was time to turn off the TV.

Fuck you Vivian and Ser Luck for exploding our budget and yet produce a crap opening ceremony that is close to a rehearsal.
:oIo::oIo:

sinkies held you head high

It is. But we can always showcase the three races in a unique way, instead of song and dance. Even better, scrap the three races thing and showcase a unique Singaporean identity. (Although it may be hard now with swarms of FTs).

Pardon my tone as I typed this during "the heat of the moment" and YOG is not exactly what I even wanted.

It is a kiddy show after all. Do not expect Guard-of-Honor precision.

I recalled when I took a class of kindergarten kids for an excursion, they also blur some move some dunno what to do just stand there.

Very normal, nothing exceptional when dealing with kiddies.

The flag-bearers are not kids. The age group is around 14-17.

Somebody is sleeping.

You very strange, show traditional stuff say been there done that. Show foreigners singing you say how come no Singapore songs. Too critical lah. I thought it was all right.

The flag bearing thing was quite crappy though. Did they not rehearse?

Don't be too hard on the Argentinian kid. Guess he's still sad Diego Maradona got sacked.

What I mean is, we can create modern local songs. ;)

I am sure Singapore does not lack musicians to compose a few and there is a significant amount of local bands here.

Back to the flag part, the rehearsal was probably done with the actors substituting the real flag-bearers. But still, it is no excuse for the screw-ups.

EDIT: After 'cooling down' and rethinking your comments, I admit I was too harsh on point 1 and 2. But still, the flag-bearing was a disaster.

Notice the guy in the Military Police uniform. What food do they feed him with? So skinny like skeleton how to be Military Police?
Six stale long beans and a piece of fried chicken with plain rice.

Flame is done nicely though. I did not watch this part.

The monster they created for this show, not too shabby but really weird.

I don't think it is that hard to follow the placard holder. My guess is probably he was given poor translation or something.

Heard from reliable insider info that the webcast server failed for a short while during the Opening Ceremony event, cutting off access to recordings.

Most, if not all, countries outside of Singapore cannot access the server for webcasting.

Server access was restored within 30 minutes.

We don't speak Spanish here in Singapore. That kid should have learned some English before coming.
