The reason why they want to call a BE soon is basically a continuation of perception management, that they are progressively making the playing field more level.

If they wanted to do that, Lee and Khaw should have shut their mouths rather than made it sound like the BE was a gift from them that they did not need to give. The perception has been self-neutralised.

True, this is the system and there is nothing we could do about it. Opposition can't twist their arms to force them abolish the dirty GRC tweak, they have to jump in and play the game else they will be further marginalised. But to plainly use seat comparison as indicator alone to say they are strong coming from the perspective of the actual mandate the people give is not a true picture. If it is supported by a good majority of the percentage of votes, I am convinced. Anyway, l think GE2011 was a turning point in Singapore's politics and GE2016 will be another highly-anticipated election year.

Lee and Khaw are doing what is expected of them. The idea is to make every political right sound like a privilege that is never automatic, and always reluctantly given.

The PAP treats citizens like kids precisely because they hope citizens remain like kids (in a political sense). It is therefore no surprise that they act like headmasters forever lecturing, talking down, patronizing, and grudgingly acceding to valid requests for more political rights as if it were like giving a kid sweets for dinner.
