I feel like an Opposition Member in Parliament together with another 81 PAP MPs

There has been a lot of discussion on the topic of TJS in this election. In particular there were tremendous amount of TJS bashing. Some said he should have withdrawn for greater good. Some said he was in for selfish reason. Some said he is a clown. Some said he was sent in by PAP. Some said he has been a failure all along.

I suspect a lot of this has got to do with the fact that people likened him to SDP (seen as radical, confrontational, but little success)... whereas TCB was likened to WP (seen as moderate, measured and able to achieve something). Some even suggested TCB should join WP which i think is absurd - he is in no way aligned with WP.

I support WP and selected people from SDP and NSP. I urge you, for greater good, to stop bashing TJS. Through the conversations and interviews he had with various media, he strikes me as a sincere person who joined the election because he believes he is suitable, reason being:
- he is not an MP-elect
- he has a good mix of experience dealing with government people at high levels
- he has good academic credentials
- he has private sector experience
- he has a winning chance, given that 40% voted for opposition, and he did not think TKL could get much votes (hence he had a chance of garnering 36% out of the 40% opposition votes if all opposition voted for TJS/TKL)

He is a novice politician. He misread the ground, he under-estimated the votes he would lose to TCB. Much as he considered TCB as a PAP man at heart (and so do i)... many opposition supporters were willing to gamble on the "moderate" man. Hence TT won.

I think it is fine if you do not support him, but the relentless bashing and smearing on TJS is unjustifiable. The fact that he garnered 25% votes itself is good testimony he has credible support base. You can tell me about Chua Kim Yeow, but don't forget OTC was regarded as a PAP man at that time and there were hardly any opposition in Parliament, and most wards were walkover, people craved for some kind of alternative. Hence don't tell me any Tom, Dick and Harry could garner 25%. TKL got only 5%.

Therefore i believe the man deserves his peace. Channel your energy positively elsewhere as in how you could further the common cause promoted in this forum.

If you still insist on continuing to demolish TJS, then i challenge you to show me proofs of some concrete achievements TCB made against the PAP. I am afraid you have been victims of the "Contrast Effect". It means in the midst of the hundreds of hardcore (and balless) PAP MPs, any PAP MP who raised the slightest question is seen as a superhero.

1) How many of us really know who Tan Jee Say is before the GE2011?
2) What are his contributions when he was at Ministry of Trade and Industry and Economic and Manpower Planning (6 years)
3) What is his role as DPM Goh's PA? (5 years)
4) Was he asked to leave by Woody for incompetent? we dunno, Woody said so
4) His private sectors (Director at DMG for 4 years, Head of PCS for 3 years, regional managing director at AIB Govett for 3 years)
5) Did he really meet the criteria in on of Presidential requirement of working in a $100 million paid up capital company? that is arguable. Of cox the gov approved it, it dilute the votes.
6) A few opposition parties poaching him, why he chose SDP
7) Why he welcomed TRE endorsement when most of the opposition parties tried to distance themselves away from TRE? Maybe SDP only.

Did you see TJS achievements pattern? He never stays long in his careers, positions getting lower and lower. If he's smart, why he didnt stay with PAP? why he aligned himself with SDP? because SDP promised him he will head their A listed team to fight for Holland-Bk Timah GRC? which he did.

And no matter how you deny it, TJS do divide the anti PAP votes, why he would want to do that? He should know but he still did that, with the support of SDP, who campaigned for him, dun tell me you are denying it also?

Taking TT and TCB out of the picture, sure, he got 25% votes, TKL only 5%, many people say TKL cant speak, lau hong speech, not in the making of a president. To me, speech and manners can be cultivated, but character cannot be refine. Did you guys watch "king's speech"? Then you will know what I meant. I blamed TKL also, he got so much time to head start his campaign, dunno what fuck he doing....

To me, is pretty simple, it is known TKL will participate for the PE, had TJS back him up and rally with him, what are the chance of us winning against 2 PAP candidates fighting each other for pro PAP votes?

I do question TJS smartness, he is just an opportunist to me, dun believe? watch in the next GE, lets see whether he will chap ji kar or not?

Sorry lah, he joined the SDP and then resigned from SDP to contest the PE. It will be a very sorry case - a very transparent case - if he joins the SDP again to contest the next GE because the GE comes first. Failing the GE, he may then again resign from SDP to contest the PE again.

There are always many opportunists around - and many voters who wear blinkers. If they don't vote for TJS they will vote for Tom, Dick or Harry.
