Living standard will go back to more realistic and practical pattern .

Singapore high standard of living is fake that comes with a PAP price.

Same as US even different state have different law and gov. If they don't like it they can seperate out as Independance state/country. Only different is they have been working together for last century. Where as Europe only working together for one decade.
For begining maybe can start same as Europe.
Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand join together for one currency. Slowly will ad in Veitnam and Indonesia. If all join we will have bigger population than US almost half of China population. Imagine economy scale of this. Maybe then new Asean currency will be one of the major and important currency after US$ and EURO$.

Easier said than done. Look what happened to Greece and Euro. Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei were already in currency parity during and even after demerger. Malaysia dropped out. They couldn't keep up. Brunei's still in.

Currency is not a simple matter of printing banknotes. The Germany reunification costs West Germany tonnes of money in unifying the Deutschemark, but they're willing and able to afford it, since East Germans are also Germans, they didn't mind, treat it as an one-off for national purpose. Now with Euro, which German or French or Italian with the money want to squander money on non-relatives' mismanaged ecomonies?
