SINGAPORE: Member of Parliament for Mountbatten, Mr Lim Biow Chuan, has been elected President of the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE).

He'll lead the new Central Committee, which held its election during its Annual General Meeting on Saturday.

Mr Lim takes over from Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, who served as CASE President for 10 years.

Assisting Mr Lim are Professor Ang Peng Hwa, from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information of Nanyang Technological University, as well as Mr Toh Yong Chuan, who is a journalist.

They have been elected as vice presidents.

Any difference since both wearing white shirts and served the same master, just like Lim Swee Say taking over Lim Boon Heng.

Could be even more interesting.
Yeo wanted to get his finger in as many pies as possible. His resume was bursting.
Lim BC has been noted for some interesting comments he has made.

This for e.g. is from wikipedia.

Connection to Jack Neo controversy

"At the height of the Jack Neo's extramarital affair scandal,[2] Lim showed support for Neo saying "Since he is remorseful over this incident, he should be forgiven. Actually, a man who has a good career development would find such scenarios unavoidable".[3] Lim later stated that he had been misquoted by the press.[3]"

Actually I'm more interested in the new vice president Toh Yong Chuan and the change in his career path.

Another past comment from new CASE president Lim Biow Chuan regarding SMRT and Saw:

Comment made by Mountbatten Member of Parliament Mr. Lim Biow Chuan:
“It would be a bit sad if she resigned because of Internet comments. For the public to say the top must resign for every single fault, I’m not comfortable with that. I wouldn’t say that is public accountability – it’s wanting a pound of flesh”.

Another one regarding PRC student Sun Xu:

In an interview with Channel 8, PAP MP Lim Biow Chuan urges Singaporeans to accept NUS PRC scholar Sun Xu’s apology and move on graciously:

“The student concerned. He has made an apology unreservedly and he has been issued a punishment from NUS and I think for us as Singaporeans, we ought to accept what has happened. Since he has apologized, we should accept it graciously and all of us should move on.”

Nah Beh. Smile until like that. Feel like punching his face now.

I can recall him stating the obvious and making motherhood statements, other things other forummers will have to help us out.

It's long long long overdue. So overdue that the bugger had so many fingers in so many pies, and so many dubious conflict of interests. Not saying that another MIW is gonna be better.

Incidentally, why must be a PAP moron? Why cant it be independent?

Just in case (pardon the pun) the independent actually does something to help consumers with issues?

Ask him to station his men at Sim Lim to settle con jobs on the spot and not install those stupid complain kiosks.

Ok, something about the new VP Toh Yong Chuan who is a journalist.
Don't know whether he's a government scholar or not, but he used to be a civil servant, in particular, the spokesperson for certain ministries.
Would think that he was probably at least director or deputy director level.
Now has changed his career path to become a journalist for SPH/ST, have seen a few of his articles before.
Also of course, additonal appointment as VP of CASE.
Wonder whether this is a common career path, switching from the civil service to journalism.

The top man for any Consumer watch dog body shouLd not be poLiticaLLy affiLiated..

As the CASE president, Yeo Guat Kwang was in Shanghai when Da Vinci opened its latest Chinese store there in Dec 2011.

He was quoted to have said: "We have verified and we found there was nothing wrong... I'm glad that the company is able to show proof that the furniture is under an Italian brand, supplied by Da Vinci, are actually imported from the manufacturers in Italy."

Why the fuck is the CASE president speaking for businesses and not consumers? Who invited him there?

I remember him as the dog that has done nothing worth mentioning to protect consumer interests.

ALL his Case-consumer related comments have always been caveat-emptor and that if a consumer is cheated, it is because he is an idiot. Look back on his comments on the closing of the Spas etc. Any auntie in Toa Payoh market can make the same comments.
