As the years went by, I began to appreciate how accurately the cyberworld emulates the real world. If you pick out the correct forums / blogs and discourse you could get a reasonable sense of what is going on. I found out things of significance here than in any of the mainstream medium.

There will always be noise but after a while one learns to pick out the right soundbytes and most people do have a reasonable appreciation of their surroundings.

There will always be the oddball within us. At the last GE, I recall one chap who always sounded serious stated a few times that WP could be wiped out. I was quite taken back. The Presidential Elections were quite interesting.

I've seen a couple of folks change their behaviour after upgrading to premium account. More willing to be abrasive when they feel like it, less mincing of words, use of vulgarities when they feel the other chap's a retard, and so on. Once the fear of being anonymously targetted is gone, the real self can show.
