Hsbc survey: 33% of s'poreans unable to save money due to high cost of living

Frugal living does not mean poor quality living.

It's not about skipping meals. It's all about not splurging on food. A home cooked meal is cheaper and far more healthy.

You're right again. It's eating home cooked meals rather than eating out. Taking public transport rather than owning a car. Wearing a Seiko or Casio rather than a Rolex. Wearing unknown brand clothes and accessories rather than Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Armani, LV, Gucci, and other high end brands. Using the handphone for 5 years or more rather than replacing it every 6 months or so.

But most Sinkies are too kiasu and brand conscious that living an unnecessary high cost lifestyle has become the norm rather than the exception islandwide. They are the most pretentious people in the world pretending to be rich and high class but are actually poor and middle class peasants.

one cleaning lady managed to saved 400K and u concluded everyone can do the same.

fallacies of your statement:
1] using an isolated , exceptional case to make a generalisation.
u simply spouted : he did it , so u can do it too.

2] ignoring other influencing factors such as life style differences , etc.
u just tried to bullshit your way through with a weak argument,
with a statement that seems logical on the surface.

Contrary, Sam's argument of Sinkies "living beyond their means" is a glaring acknowledgement of the differences in lifestyle as an influencing factor.

We complain about food prices, but the irony is Swensen outlets are always packed. You will be hard pressed to find a seat at any of the North Point F&B outlets during weekends. Same with Tampines Mall.

Sinkie hard to save money as no one will be as dumb to buy a piece of paper for 60k, a 90sq meter apartment with shared swimming pool for 1mio

You are right. I have come across many who, when deciding on replacing their 5-year old cars for a brand new one, would think in terms of the monthly instalments they would be paying.

For example, if their current car loan repayment is $700 per month, they come across a new car with a new instalment plan of $600 per month, regardless of the tenure, they tell themselves that for $100 less each month they would be driving a new car instead.
