[h=2]how unemployment figures are computed in Singaporeu[/h]
Quite inredible and what I was trying to solve was this mystery. Remember WP put up a suggestion. to sustain 1% GDP growth by increasing labor force participation rate because Singapore has relatively low labour partiipatiion rat compared with other developed countries. The mystery to me was why is Singapore labor participation rate relatively low yet our unemployment rate is low compared with other developed countries. A lower proportion of our pple of working age work yet we have low unemployment which is counter intuitive. Finally I found the answer, the Singapore govt consider those who are unemployed for more than 6 months retired! (see below)... so they consider you retired after 6mths even though you did not find employment

106,000 Singaporeans Are Statistically UNEMPLOYED & the PAP Govt Is Still Letting In MORE FOREIGNERS
Total employment in Singapore is 3.419 million now.

The latest unemployment figures showed that 106,000 Singaporeans are unemployed. This is 1.4x the total population of a Clementi New Town or 1.56x a Bishan New Town!

This is only the short-term unemployed figure within the immediate six months (25 weeks).
Any longer, one's considered voluntarily retired and not included in the 'official unemployment figure'
.

Any male with NS liability is also considered as fully 'employed'. And working odd jobs part-time for even 1hr/week is also considered 'employed' under the official empl

There may be 106,000 unemployed Singaporeans but they're all useless. That is why foreigners are still required.
