Link between milk and weight gain in preschoolers
Posted at: 03/19/2013 6:50 AM
Pediatricians recommend children drink low fat or skim milk to help prevent obesity but a new study suggests it could actually contribute to weight gain among preschoolers.
Researchers tracked the milk consumption and weight of 11,000 children at two and again at four years old. On average -- kids who drank full fat milk weighed less than those who drank low fat or skim milk and low fat milk drinkers were more likely to be overweight or obese by the age of four.
Researchers say whole milk makes children feel fuller faster and they are less likely to eat more food.
