How sharing an article on social media could run afoul of defamation laws

We have seen it before: Someone posts a questionable article on Facebook or re-tweets it on Twitter. In some cases, the person ends up being sued for doing that.

Can this really happen to you just because you “shared” something on social media?

The answer is yes, if the article contains potentially defamatory content.

It's much easier for dictators to bully those directly under their control.

Reposting someone's essay/post/article in a forum or facebook asking about it's authenticity or discuss upon it vs sharing it to 250 sites and friends is a totality different thing and responsibility is it not ?
