PARIS | Mon Jan 24, 2011 10:55am EST

PARIS Jan 24 (Reuters) - The Paris prosecutor's office said on Monday it is opening a preliminary investigation to determine what assets ousted Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali holds in France.

Ben Ali fled his country earlier this month after a rash of violent protests against high food prices, unemployment and his authoritarian rule. French authorities denied him entry but suspect the former president holds property in France. (Reporting by Thierry Leveque; editing by Mark Heinrich)
