She was brought to NUH with injuries to her arms and neck.

It was said that she was attacked when she stepped out of a lift at Block 415, while on the way to school.

The Indian foreign worker was said to be a cleaner working at a local hospital. The cleaner, 30, slashed her several times during the attack. After she fell, he sat on her and viciously cut her repeatedly as she screamed for help.

Police responded to a call for help at around 8.40am and the assailant was arrested.

According to the student’s mother, the nursing student met the cleaner during her attachment at a hospital.

During the attack, the mother heard her daughter screaming.

The mother said, “So I told my husband, I think my daughter is screaming, can we go (downstairs)? My husband saw it (the incident), pulled (the assailant’s) shirt, and asked him, what are you doing to my daughter? There was (a lot of) blood. Then the ambulance and policemen came and helped us.”

TNP reported that the Indian cleaner was actually stalking the student. The day before she was stabbed, he was said to have asked her to marry him. However, she rejected him.

Police investigations are ongoing.

It was only an isolated and spontaneous incident.

Deport the undesirable immigrant and let's move on.

Ng Joo Hee, commissioner of police, Singapore Police Force, said: “It's not uncommon that police gives warnings. But because the person who received the warning in this case are foreigners, they're then deemed as undesirable immigrants in our countries. And (the state has powers to) proclaim someone a prohibited immigrant to remove him from the country."
