Just wonder whether LKY will have the same fate as Chairman Mao ... many blame Mao for causing the death and sufferings to millions of his countrymen yet 37 years after his passing he is still a revered figure in China today. Many more are grateful to him for bringing pride and dignity to the Chinese people. His giant portrait is hung proudly at Tien An Men Square. Bus/truck drivers keep his photo in their vehicles. Some rural households still display his photo in their living rooms. And early this year when young Chinese people were protesting outside the Japanese embassy in Beijing over the island chain conflict some could be seen holding up his portrait shouting slogans in clenched fists .....

displaying portrait and statue of evil person is not good for the country.

I wouldn't compare Harry to Mao. The chairman took China from a chaotic and downtrodden mess, united the masses, and kicked out the evil rot in the country. Yes, he made mistakes, but lifted the massive country from a devastated state to a progressive one. Whereas Lee took over the reigns of a built-up country at peace and a state of mid-development and rode on the backs of an obedient crowd with support from major powers. Besides, Singapore is a little speck compared to PRC with the largest population in the world. Ruling Peesai is a piece of cake compared with the behemoth that is China.

Like all efficient politicians, Mao definitely resorted to some dastardly and probably "unethical" ways too; but that's normal in the political game. My mention here was that comparing Old Harry to Mao is not proportionately level. China is a huge big giant whereas Singapore is a little dot. And for this Singaporeans have over rated Old Harry and his feats. Small little events that took place in Singapore would be brushed off as common events else where but the local media exaggerate them and made them sound so big time. The racial riots that took place in Singapore for example pale when compared to ethnic rivalries that happened elsewhere (eg. Paki/India) and more recently, the "ponding" in Orchard Road versus the floods in Thailand, Myanmar, China, etc. Fact is, Singapore is small and easy to manage.

All of his books are now collectors' items. People are collecting the set and will eventually put single sets up for sale on ebay.

That's why all who buy will never read the books, but keep them in pristine condition.

If a hello kitty doll can sell for $126k on ebay, I reckon his set of books will sell for quite a sum.

Absolute rubbish! You need only to go into any bookstore and you can see heaps and heaps of his books. No one in his own will want to read any of his books as his views are totally irrelevant now. The reason why his books sell whenever they are first launched it's because they were made compulsory reading for secondary and JC students where the teachers would set research questions for them. And also the whole civil service as they don't want to be caught out if any of the Perm Secs or Dy Secs suddenly refer to any part of those books. Moreover the bulk discounts offered are huge. Most of them ended up as door stoppers.

My advice is that if you want to get on to the present and future world, stop reading the Old Fart's outmoded perspectives. It will put you in a mind frame that will ill prepare you for everything. The day will come when someone would write a book to list and point out all the wrong things that the Old Fart think and did. And that would really be a best seller.
