This is what happened to me:

I have a handicapped brother who is spastic, intellectually subnormal and also suffering from epilepsy. Two months ago, he managed to be married to a China woman. The marriage happened without my knowledge and I only found out about a month after their marriage was solemnized.

I subsequently met the woman who claimed to be divorced and has a son living in China. At the time when I met her, she was holding a tourist visa. She said she was introduced to my brother by her relative who is working in the construction industry here. I asked to see her divorce papers and her passport, but she refused to show me. This clearly is a marriage of convenience.

I then went to the police to make a report, but they told me that they can’t do anything and no report can be filed. I then called ICA and out of courtesy, they listened to my “complaint”. I also went to see my MP, who initially didn’t know what to do, but subsequently said that they would send a letter to ICA. It’s been more than a month since I did all that and there’s been no news of any progress or investigation.

Recently, I heard that she’s now working in Singapore. That’s your FT – someone without any paper qualifications can also work in Singapore. So I called ICA again and was told that I HAVE to furnish them with the exact location of her workplace before they are willing to do anything. Sadly, this is the state of Singapore now. Any foreigners willing to come, can stay and do as they like.

The brother probably paid to do it.
Many old uncles, desperadoes, druggies, ex-con do it as a source of income....it's a cottage industry.....with PRCs setting up 'agencies' to cater to the demand.
Beware of pitfalls....I know of a case of one marriage to a druggie who jumped to his death....fake PRC wife got a windfall from the insurance payout....leaving nothing for sinkie's surviving family members.

At one time ,dependent pass or long-term pass cannot work ,only PR can work,maybe now more relaxed can work.
Have come across a Filipina maid sponsored by A to work 2 years (work permit) in Sinkeeland but she work freelance and of course she paid monthly sponsorship fees to A.
Foreigners have been capitalising on the loopholes in the system.U think MOM sleeping or closing one eye ?

You see the karang guni man in your estate. Is he a local or ahtiong? Is he on a social visit pass or a permanent resident? The same questions should be asked of ahnehs doing business from selling phone cards, coconut drinks, flowers in Little India up Mustaffa shopping centre. Apparently ICA has either relaxed entry rules or the Home Team's enforcement is weak!

I know the ah tiong karang guni man in my SG neighbourhood is a full time work permit holder as a storeman working as a karang guni on weekends as a part timer. As of overseas marrying sinkies to work in SG been a practice for a very long time already. 1st time I encounter it was in the 80s this sr tech in my former company had a 22yo wife from PRC. That time I was still single and he asked me if I wanted to get into the action too SGD10k for 2yrs cannot ask what she does and cannot fuck her she just stays with you other than that don't bother what she does.

Foreign spouses can't work unless they apply for the LTVP+. This is a new pass by ICA to allow foreign spouses to work.

Yes it is very sad for sinkies. My employer hired a lot of PRC as mold designers (with no real skills & qualifications) earning about SGD 2,800 a month and in fact they are doing run errand odd jobs. When the authorites tighten the issuing of work permits few months ago, my employer still refused to hire Singaporeans & PRs and they prefer to hire someone with E-Pass (higher salaries) to do S-Pass or work permit jobs :(
