How can the Singapore authorities missed almost 4 kg of drugs in a suitcase? Note that Yong Vui Kong was also transiting at Changi Aiport when he got arrested for 47.27gram of drugs. So how can Singapore allow 3.66kg of drugs to slipped past our shore?

Indonesia arrests Malaysian over suitcase of drugs

2011-07-03 18:11

MATARAM, July 3, 2011 (AFP) - A Malaysian man could face the death penalty in Indonesia after customs officials found 3.66 kilograms (8.1 pounds) of methamphetamine, or "ice", in his luggage, an official said Sunday.

The 46-year-old identified as Cheam Chee Teng was arrested on Saturday shortly after landing at an airport on the tourist island of Lombok on a flight from Singapore, customs official Danang Kuswidodo said.

"Our officers found a suspicious brown package hidden in his black suitcase lining. It turned out to be high-grade crystal methamphetamine with a street value of 7.2 billion rupiah ($842,400)," he said.

At the customs office where he is being held, Cheam told reporters he was promised around $2,000 to take the suitcase from a man named "Kenny" in Vietnam and hand it over to someone in Mataram city in Lombok.

He transited in Singapore.

"I really didn't know what was inside the suitcase. I was just asked to bring it here," he added.

But officials were not convinced.

"His statement was confusing. How could he not know what was in the suitcase. His personal belongings, newspapers and clothes were in it," the customs official said.

Indonesia enforces stiff penalties, including life imprisonment and the death sentence, for drug trafficking.gl

not surprising wat! ... dey can even miss 1 whole big person slipping thru like nutting ...

Most likely it is because the person is in transit, the lugage is not checked but simply move from one flight to the other.

That is correct, an old neighbour of mine is languishing in a jail somewhere in Taiwan for drug smuggling. Apparently he got the drugs from Bangkok, transited via Singapore to Taipei and got caught down there.
