This is how bad Sinkees got screwed. The number 1 killer is the cost of rental and not the cost of food. Guess who is the biggest landlord? KNN, the fucking pappies lah.

That's what I paid for reasonable food at a local supermarker. Nasi Briyani, Spagetti with chicken sauce, Amercian Fried Rice and Hey Chou. Guess what? THB 100 still got change.

Singapore Hawkers and coffeeshop owners are taking advantage of the situation,
they increase prices as they like, when you asked why increased? they blame on fuel
price increased, but when petrol now has come down than what? still inncrease price???

Yesterday when down to Ang Mo Kio Av 5 coffee shop to have my usual fish soup and rice
last month was Soup $5.00 + rice 50cts =$5.50..but yesterday... I had to pay $6.50 an increase of $1.00
or 20%!!!! this will be the last time I patronised this coffeeshop, no wonder yesteday there was no crowd
hope it remains no crowd, and they'll pack up soon!!

Now who caused all these inflation bloody landlord, hawkers and coffeeshop owners!!

We may soon become like Greece.

Just returned from Greece and the Greek opposition political parties are gaining a very strong foothold cos the locals are so angry with the huge influx of Albanians, Turks & black Africans.

The country is completely bankrupt and in many villages the Greeks are resorting to barter trade their goods and produce to stay alive.

Everywhere I saw anti-foreigner graffiti splashed on buildings, roads, trains, buses and high walls.

Dream on.

Greeks got balls.

Collectively do the Singkies got any?

It is more likely North Koreans will get their freedom and their destiny under their own control than
Sinkies of Sinkie land.

In the US, food is even cheaper.. 79ct per pound for chicken drumstick (free range some more), dozen egg 99ct, pork (from $1.69 to $2.5 per pound depending on what cut). Most greens are below $1 per pound and during summer choy sum and chinese vegetables are usually below 50ct per pound in most Chinatown grocery. 1 Gallon milk $1.99. All price quoted in USD. Fresh Wild caught Copper river salmon (one of best grade salmon) is around $6.99 per pound.

The various levels of govt (federal, provincial, municipal) have significant debts, and perhaps, in the SG govt's perspective, Canada is bankrupt!

I believe that the cost of food in SG is relatively very expensive compared to the average person's income. Since housing and food are very expensive in SG, I believe that makes it very challenging for lower income groups. Whereas in Canada, there is the downside protection - if a person is on welfare, prescription medicine is free (also almost free for senior citizens), medicare (appt with doctors, stay in hospital, surgery are free)

I recall that when my spouse was in the labour, delivery and recovery room (long time ago), private room, washroom has three shower heads (at the top, near the body and near the lower area, gold plated plumbing - these are rooms donated or funded by Jewish families at Mount Sinai Hospital)

The cost of milk is so expensive in Singapore (in Toronto: last week $5 for 4 litres of micro filtered milk, this week $4 for same), whereas eggs are much cheaper (about $4 a dozen). This week, fresh salmon fillets (Cdn $7 a pound), fresh skinless and boneless chicken breasts Cdn$5 a pound.

I am aware that the cost of food is cheaper in the USA. Fresh vegetables and fruits are much more expensive in the winter for us in Toronto, compared to the summer.
However, there is free medicare in Canada, a downside insurance, because although no one likes to be ill, we do not know what can happen when we are senior citizens.

I have to agree, I just came back from there, visiting their supermarket one realised that its not expensive to live in the States. Ok I know fucking PAP will come tell us we need to import everything but fuck you PAP you've made the rental so high how people sell cheap? You've fucking monopolized supermarkets with your cronies NTUC and now even Shing Shong had also jumped in. We Singaporeans are very screwed. Low tax low tax kee-lan-tio-wu ah.

Maid just bought breakfast for me -

1de92069.jpg

Pork Porridge (mince, slice pork, liver, intestines, stomach kidney) with egg - 20 baht 80 cents (without egg 15 baht or 60 cents)

Full cup of soya bean drink 6 baht 24 cents

U-Char Quay - 7 pcs 10 baht 40 cents

My point is not comparing prices but to show the value of the product relative to the price in Thailand - value for money. In Singapore? Whe whole country is paying rent not food and PAP call this progress? Phtui :oIo: PAP :oIo: PAP :oIo: PAP

Really a sad thread. Where did we go wrong and how did we go wrong?

greed, bro, greed.
those hum chee idiots whom looked at short term gains of those LUPs and MUPs, GST Packages, NSS, ERS and Telco shares in the past. if they had shown more balls like folks in Hougang and the other folks who did not vote for the PAP, things would had been vastly different. thank goodness folks in Aljunied GRC grew some balls in the last GE, proud to be a part of them.

Sinkieland has the most powerful and effective indoctrination program....perfected over 50 years.
How else would you explain well travelled sinkies with access to internet but their minds are as ignorant as the average north korea and burma citizens (I think the average burmese is more aware than the 60.1% sinkie).

Eh?? Strange.. when I clidk reply to thread.. it is a "quick reply"..?? hmm?

Anyways, firstly I'd like to thank all who actually read this thread and posted some good points about the high rentals.. which push stall owners, sellers to raise prices.. as well as other good points on how some other countries dun cringe on making corporations and richer ppl pay mre taxes. These are very good points.

I remember once.. when a fren "who previously worked in IRA.. but now left sg" said that the explanation on GST introduction was bcos "there are a lot of Sporeans who are retiring and bcos they are retiring, we cant tax them income.. cos most of them dun work".. GST affects all.. even foreigners haf to pay.. but guess wat? At almost every major department store, there is GST refund given to foreigners!!! Why is that the case?? I even remember a FL I once patronised over a few years back (shes PRC) said that if I were to buy her a gift, pls gif her the receipt so she can claim back the GST at the airport... WTF!!!???

When I was in US.. I paid the tax when I buy stuff.. I could nvr claim back when I left.. (could you do that in the USA or other countries? i mean, get a refund on the sales tax u paid for?)

Ok, so another fren said that cos Sg got no natural resources, import raises gds prices.. that is true.. we import almost everything.. but must rent be so high? I don't think it ever went down over the years.. ok.. I'll admit.. my economics ain't that great.. but I do remember that govts can actually help to control rental rates.. if they want to. err.. correct me if I am wrong.. but isnt it a way to fight inflation.. along wif manipulation of interest rates? sori.. aint that great in all these figures and all..

So our PM wants us to be amongst the top nations/countries in the world.. to be competitive and attract investments, he said this is amust.. so..since we are considered by most to be a "developed country".. why don't we haf laws that protect not just our very own people but every worker/employee? Anti-discrimination laws are unheard of.. and HR practices are archiac.. Employers goes around like kings and grievances are heard by ppl and seems to be ignored by govt.

Did we vote in ppl who care only about money.. is that what we wanted.. or want? Or do we want ppl to help manage and run our country so that all can live in not so much of a struggle.. but at least haf the time to spend with our familiy(ies) and loved ones? Ignoring the cries of the ppl can only lead to downfalls, history has shown us many cases. Will Sg head in that path.. that only when the 60% has ACTUALLY lost their jobs to foreigners.. and are in dire situations.. then they will act?

I fear that the 60% are like frogs kept in kettle of water that is being boiling slowly.. they will only get cooked bcos they never saw the danger coming.

Honestly, I hope the scenario I painted above happens faster.. that mre Sporeans lose their jobs to foreigners at a faster rate.. bcos only then will they realize that SOMETHING is NOT right! Chinese saying goes.. you won't cry until you see your own coffin.. and when that happens.. it WILL be too late

Nice to see you tension bro....always like your stories now like reading your posts

Regarding the IRA thingy....I concur because you see the HDB rules were also changed along those guidelines.
Many downgraded back then when price spiked for the first time....govt got red eyed many were cashing out and made it hard for anyone to make money from HDB after that....what the fuck use to see HDB prices appreciate but you cannot cash out.

Then came the cpf investment...used to be you can withdraw profits every October....that was stopped too.

Govt wants you to never stop working by holding back whatever monies you have.
It seems now with minimum sum and cpf life you will never see your 'retirement monies' again.

High prices of cars and properties to enslave you to work till you die. That's the final solution MIWs plan for us sinkies.

hello bro, thanks for the compliment.
I actually wanted to reorganize my old stories and put a proper ending to it.. but sigh.. life caught up and I'm struggling now to makes ends meet too.
anyone got job offer pls let me know (not kidding.. pinoys taking the jobs I want.. and I can't really lower my expectations as I got to take care of my parents)

I agree with you on the HDB and the CPF. isn't it funny that the govt always makes decisions wuthout consulting the ppl who voted them in.. and then expects all to FOLLOW without any questions? that seems to be still the way they are doing things.. but I can feel some, not including us.. are slowly waking up.

On matters that affect each and everyone in SG.. i really dun like it when the ppl who sporeans voted in, approve and sign and push forward policies and decisions even before letting us know they intend to do so. The minimum sum has been raised (i believe) on 2 occasions..and the age to withdraw also changed.. i duno how many times.. and it's like.. nobody make a whimper or a noise.

Does everyone believe that ALL ppl who has CPF will actually be ALIVE past the age of 60??
What happens if you reach 55.. and then for some reason or another.. can't really work at where you are.. and haf to leave.. or watever reasons..
You haf to wait till 62 to get a whiff of your CPF.. you think you can last for more than 3 years with watever savings you haf in the bank.. assuming you haf some savings in the bank.. cos.. dun forget cost of living is ever rising.. I dun believe it ever dropped significantly for anyone to notice it.

And also dun forget GST also eats into your pockets.. dun even bother about interest rates.. I duno why but I feel that we in Sg are like Japanese cos our interest rates very close... very very close.. and guess what.. porn is legal there.. SHEESH

K.. i go eath lunch now.. b back later.
Oh bro NW.. ur posts very insightful and well thoughtout too.. i enjoy reading ur posts too

besides food, clothing, automobiles, gas, housing is cheaper too after the housing bust. although an average home in sf and palo alto is in the million+ range, it's considered affordable because pay here for a well compensated high tech geek is 100k+ plus stock options. mortgage rates continue to tumble. however, two things continue to screw americans, especially californians: high taxes and extremely expensive health care. americans are quadruple taxed. federal tax eats away over 28% for those making over 100k, 33% for household income up to 250k, and 35% if it is over 250k. there's also fica for social security and medicare. the state tax eats another sizable chunk, followed by local or city taxes in the form of parcel tax if you own a home. and then, there's sales tax. for capital gains, there's capital gains tax. and there's tax on interest earned in your cd's, checking and saving accounts. every april 15, a household with an income of 250k+ typically sets aside or forks out roughly 45% in taxes. without good health insurance coverage, don't get sick, injured, get into an accident, contract cancer, or break a limb. you'll be broke in no time. typical medical bill for major surgery, hospital stay and rehabilitation is over 2m. it's better for most who cannot afford health insurance or cannot find work which provide health insurance benefits to just go to the golden gate bridge and jump. they save everyone dear to them a lot of trouble. not joking. those with pride and do not depend on welfare would rather commit suicide.

For all that is said in this thread, Ive already
1. cut down to 2 meals a day, not to be over-weight
2. getting myself very fit to avoid unpredictable medical bills
and
3. getting prepared to scavenge left-over foods(if neccessary)
which I did few times already tactically.
I can imagine that it is so tough here for our fellow citizens here,
though I can avoid all the above 3 points.

you're no different from the typical proud american who resists the easy way of collecting welfare dough, spends one third on cheap pizza, burger, fries and soda, spends another third at the bingo hall or casino, and wastes the remaining third on drugs and booze. meanwhile, the losers also collect food stamps and trade them for cash so they can purchase fantasy 5 scratch-n-win coupons. (they seldom win more than 3 bucks.) housing under section 8 is paid for by the state. it's better for these americans to be starving and thin than become bloated with cheap fast food and soda, addicted to welfare, incapable and unwilling to go back to work, and hog and clog ambulance services and the a&e wards of every medical center.
