Anyone knows how much our BGs/MGs/LG/RADMs earn? Do they earn more than their US/NATO/Asean counterparts? Give that none of thme have specifically fought in a war, should there not also be a review of their salaries?

We need to pay these people well, for they are defending what you have got, keeping your country, your children safe & not to forget, when they come to the end of their 'shelf life', they will help govern the country as well. Please pay they well!

I'd like a salary review of all the losers in this forum. They're definitely being paid more than their worth.

The only SAF personnel who is a true blue professional soldier is Colonel Lo Yong Poo, former CO of SISPEC and Commander of BMTC. He was one of the heroes in the SQ hijacking incident, as he was one of the SOF commandoes who eliminated the terrorists and salvaged the situation.

Unfortunately, he was not considered for promotion to a General rank, and was given various non-operational appointments (such as those training schools) due to the fact that his highest educational qualification was O Levels.

During his time in the SAF, he was regarded as a true-blue professional soldier. He attended the US Marines course and topped his class at the age of almost 40, outperforming the much younger American trainees. Moreover he also was well-known for having an SOC timing of under 6:30 even though he was much older than most recruits. He was a man of no airs, constantly talking to recruits in BMTC and asking for their feedback. He led by example and many of his men commented that they would be willing to go to war with him. He was held in the utmost respect by anyone who worked with him.

Unfortuantely, SAF does not promote people based on their military capabilities but their academic results. If Lee Hsien Loong, Lui Tuck Yew, Chan Chun Sing and the fat retard Ng Yat Chung can be generals, please don't tell me that Lo Yong Poo is not cut out to be a general?

He obviously took an early retirement and left to join the private sector where he is now the CEO of Goodrich which is a well-known textiles firm. He is one of the VERY FEW ex-military men who actually managed to make it in the private sector with HIGHER PAY than his public sector job. Instead of taking a role in a GLC or stat board, he proved that he could make it in the private sector where there is no place for wayang and full spotlight is on results.

Another is LTC Peter Low who saw action in Sukarno Confrontation

He led a company as young officer in repelling those invaders entering via west coastline of Malaya

Again not considered good enuf to raise to BG etc but kicked sideway to rot in some jobs with CIS - now ST in designing rifles that never got produced////// So these cases confirm that our generals are paper tigers.......... smart in everything except for the art of real wars

How well? Millions?

It is acceptable to pay Generals and Admirals well.

It is however NOT acceptable to appoint Generals and Admirals based on their academic qualifications, with massive weightage on their results in an examination that they took at age 18.

It is far more important to consider other qualities that are relevant to the job scope. Such as their ability to lead their men in times of war, and the ability to plan strategically to defeat an enemy. Our Generals and Admirals are appointed on the basis of their A level results (which is when all scholarships are awarded) and their career paths are planned for them from the minute they finish their studies. SAF Overseas Scholars do not even complete their OCS before disrupting for studies.

How well should they be paid vs their even Australian counterparts, who have fought in wars?

None of your leaders have fought a war.
