The House delivered its impeachment article against Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday, setting in motion a trial where senators will decide whether to convict the former president for inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government.

Senators will not start to hear the case against Trump for another two weeks. The chamber reached an agreement where the trial will start in earnest the week of Feb. 8, giving the Senate time to confirm more of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet.

Senators will get sworn in as jurors on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., previously announced. Then, both the impeachment managers who will make the House’s case against Trump and the president’s defense team will get time to draft and file legal briefs.

The managers, headed by lead manager Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., carried the article across the Capitol to the Senate on Monday in masked pairs as part of a formal procession. As Raskin read the charge against Trump, a smattering of senators wearing face coverings looked on from within the chamber.

Trump will become the only president to face a second impeachment trial, and the first to go through the process after leaving office. If 67 senators vote to convict him, the chamber can then decide whether to bar him from holding office again and receiving benefits given to former presidents.

The article the impeachment managers delivered Monday charges Trump with incitement of insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. It argues that Trump, by falsely claiming that widespread fraud cost him the 2020 election and then encouraging his supporters during a Jan. 6 rally to challenge the results, inflamed a mob that overran the Capitol and disrupted the count of President Joe Biden’s electoral win. The attack left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer.

The article contends that Trump “threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government,” and “thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

Trump has not taken any responsibility for the riot. Only after it took place, he discouraged violence and pledged a peaceful transition of power. Biden was inaugurated Wednesday with more than 25,000 National Guard forces patrolling Washington D.C.

Trump has hired South Carolina attorney Butch Bowers to defend him. The nine House impeachment managers are Democratic Reps. Raskin, Diana DeGette of Colorado, David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Joaquin Castro of Texas, Eric Swalwell and Ted Lieu of California, Stacey Plaskett, the delegate for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania and Joe Neguse of Colorado.

Senate President Pro Tempore Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, will preside over the trial rather than Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. The president pro tempore typically leads impeachment trials for non-presidents.

It is unclear now how long the trial will last. Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., are expected to agree on parameters for how long it will take and how much time in each day the Senate devotes to it.

For the Senate to convict Trump, 17 Republicans would need to join all 50 Democrats. While some GOP lawmakers have signaled they could vote to hold the president responsible, others have dismissed the impeachment process as illegitimate.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that the trial is “stupid” and “counterproductive.” He argued the process would divide the country.
Impeachment supporters have contended the U.S. cannot move on from the Capitol attack until it holds the people responsible for it accountable.

Multiple Republicans including Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Ben Sasse of Nebraska have signaled they will consider voting to convict Trump. McConnell also has not ruled out a conviction vote.

The House voted by a 232-197 vote to impeach Trump earlier this month. Ten Republicans voted with all Democrats to charge the ex-president.
The Republican-led Senate acquitted the former president last year after the House charged him with obstruction of Congress and abuse of power.

Two new highly respected lawyers will represent the 45th President in the Senate impeachment trial, which is set for next week. On Sunday, President Trump signaled that David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor Jr. will fill the roles. This comes after his previous legal team departed on Saturday.

The two will lead defense against accusations that President Trump incited the violence that took place on January 6 at the Capitol Building. Meanwhile, lawmakers are questioning why Democrats are pushing for impeachment when President Trump is no longer in office.
In a recent interview, Senate juror and Ohio lawmaker Rob Portman (R-Ohio) claimed that President Trump’s actions were inexcusable. However, the constitutionality of impeachment is noteworthy.
“I do think this constitutionality issue has to be addressed, I mean we would be convicting a private citizen as, you know, someone who is out of office,” he stated. “That sets a precedent and I think all former president’s, those alive and those not, could be affected in a negative way.”

If he actually did do something to stop the rise of China that would have been his one redeeming quality. Unfortunately all he did was pander to a bunch of white supremacists while allowing china to fill in the power vacuum.

WASHINGTON – Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell has praised embattled No. 3 House Republican Liz Cheney as “a leader with deep convictions and courage,” even as he's criticized the “looney lies” of a hard-right House GOP freshman as a “cancer” on the party.
Scores of conservative House Republicans are seeking to oust Cheney, R-Wyoming, from her leadership post after she supported the chamber’s impeachment of then-President Donald Trump.
And Democrats are pushing to remove freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., from her committee assignments after reports of social media posts backing baseless assertions that some mass shootings at schools were staged. She's also encouraged violence against Democratic politicians.
It is unusual for the guarded McConnell, R-Ky., to publicly weigh in on political turmoil in the House. His comments suggest concerns about letting the GOP's most pro-Trump, hardest-right factions gain too much sway in the party.

McConnell has all but broken with Trump following the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol that led to five deaths. The Kentuckian is also still haunted by winnable Senate races that Republicans lost after nominating fringe candidates who lost their general elections.
McConnell's strong words could put pressure on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who runs the fractious House GOP conference and will be influential in deciding how to handle Cheney and Greene. McCarthy has been more cautious in his dealings with both lawmakers.
McCarthy was expected to meet with Greene as early as Tuesday. House Republicans are expected to meet Wednesday, when hard-right GOP lawmakers could try forcing a vote to remove Cheney.
“Liz Cheney is a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them,” McConnell said in a statement obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.
McConnell did not explicitly call for keeping Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, in her No. 3 job. But he called her “an important leader in our party and in our nation” and said he looked forward to continuing to work with her.

On Monday, McConnell released a statement that said, “Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country. Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality.”

Kraken Powell, Rudy Giuliani, My Pillow guy Mike Lindell...first to get hit big time and feel real pain...but the guy who should feel the most real pain is Trump himself...that is why he keeps doing what he does, because he never gets sanctioned for doing these wrong dangerous things... unfortunately he won't get convicted at the senate impeachment trial...

Talking about NEWSMAX...did you see a recent episode where they had My Pillow guy Mike Lindell on?...they wanted to ask him about apparently being suppressed by Twitter...but Lindell wanted to talk about Dominion...and thus NEWSMAX had to suppress Lindell instead...LOL...what an ironical joke...but there was a big picture at play as well..when there is proper effective push back like real hard hitting defamation lawsuits, hard right networks/media finally stop spreading the lies and fake news...even Bannon suppressed Giuliani on his show recently when Rudy pathetically and shamefully tried to blame BLM and Antigua for the Insurrection at the Capitol on 6th Jan...all lies and fake news of course... Bannon knew this and shut Giuliani down because Bannon did not want to get kicked off YouTube...

Yes i would like to know why has newsmaxtv gone to the dark side about thr erection fraud. The evidence is overwhelming...can it be newsmaxtv is threatened by the swamp? I hope after the impeachment trial...the Republicans will get rid of vote counting machines and only allow manual counting and certification by both parties. In addition full voter registration and only legal voters allowed. Proper procedure and rules in place for absentee ballots. Signature verification etc. Voter harvesting, illegals voting etc must be banned.
