Two rally sites for Hougang by-election
SINGAPORE: Two sites in Hougang can be used for rallies during the campaigning period of the by-election in Hougang.
One is the open field in front of Block 837, bounded by Hougang Avenue 4 and Hougang Central.
The other site is the Hougang Stadium at Hougang Avenue 2.
Police say rallies may be held from May 17 to 24 between 7am and 10pm.
Applications for the rally sites have to be made one day before the intended day of the election meeting.
The list of rallies permitted to be held on May 17 will be released at the close of applications on Wednesday afternoon.
The information will also be available on the Singapore Police Force's website.
Police have advised members of the public who are attending the rallies to leave the sites in an orderly and peaceful manner at the end of each meeting.
Officers will be deployed to monitor the situation.
Police say they will not hesitate to take firm action against offenders or anyone whose behaviour may lead to public-order problems.
Those attending the rallies are also urged to use public transport, as traffic congestion can be expected near the rally venues.
Organisers are also reminded to comply with the conditions and restrictions on election meetings stated under the Public Order (Election Meetings) Regulations 2009.
