WP to take over Aljunied Town Council offices

MR LOW Thia Kiang and his team of Workers' Party (WP) MPs for Aljunied GRC will be able to take over the office leases of the Aljunied Town Council, HDB revealed on Friday.
Following his victory in the General Election, Mr Low said he hoped to get the cooperation of the People's Action Party (PAP) in taking over the premises saying building a new town council building would be a 'waste of resources.'
The WP leader was alluding to how when he was first elected in the Hougang single-seat ward back in 1991, he had to scramble to build a new town council building because he had to vacate the Hougang Town Council office after he took over from the PAP.
In a statement, HDB said that three offices, each on a 3-year lease, have been rented to the Aljunied Town Council and that the 'new Aljunied GRC MPs will take on all existing agreements of the Aljunied Town Council.'
Meanwhile, HDB has also clarified the reason Mr Low had to vacate the Houggang Town Council office back in 1991.
'Prior to the 1991 election, Hougang Town Council had been managing 3 SMCs ? Hougang, Punggol and Paya Lebar SMCs. The Hougang Town Council office was then located in Punggol SMC which, following the 1991 elections, was subsumed by Cheng San GRC,' HDB said in its statement.

All eyes will be on Cynthia Phua handing the furniture, computers, documents, accounts etc in Aljunied Yown Council properly instead of leving a mess for Mr Low to clear.
