SINGAPORE - Local radio personality Hossan Leong was reportedly censured for announcing the disruption to the Circle Line train services this morning.

The deejay was allegedly rapped because his announcement came before an official statement was released by SMRT.

He had reported on the delays based on tweets that he received.

In another tweet at about 9am this morning, Hossan commented that he was now "getting into trouble" for reporting the incident on-air.

Hossan revealed that he could only "talk about it if (an) official SMRT statement is given".

It is not clear whether the warning came from MediaCorp or SMRT.

The response triggered a torrent of responses from angry netizens, with many cracking jokes at SMRT's expense and expressing support for Hossan.

Hossan subsequently tweeted an apology this evening for the uproar: "All's good. I'm sorry if I caused any misunderstanding," and asked readers to "move on" from the incident.

Thousands were affected by the delays on the Circle Line during the early morning rush-hour.

SMRT issued an advisory on its website stating that the train services were delayed as of 8.40am, but some reported experiencing delays as early as 7am.

The cause of the disruption was due possibly to signalling problems.

Passengers reported waiting between 10 and 30 minutes for a train.

Train services on the Circle Line were fully restored at 11.45am.

officialdome is king here. don't anyhow tweet here and tweet there. suddenly you found yourself in changi holiday bungalow!!

Not a fan of his, but the deejay is doing what a person in his capacity should do - doing his bit for public service.

The authorities should encourage the use of current tech to enhance its services.

Cheers!

Hosan Leong ho-say liaw - he is like President lah; he is supposed to follow the script and not anyhow say things. Otherwise, the man up there will have to pass judgement on him, like the Prataman asked to be judged. KNN.

Hosan Leong should be put to task for announcing news he got from twitter instead of official announcement. Yes its true the circle line train was down, and no one will know if the disruption could be fix except for the officials. If every DJ just announce the info from internet, the whole country will be in chaos!

It's strange that Hossan must apologise for reporting a fact. While the one who should be apologising is SMRT, the one responsible for the cock up:rolleyes:

DJ can report traffic jams and even speed camera traps from call in by drivers how come cannot report call in from passengers?

You don't report shameful things without asking for permission.

fucking stupid...how can they think of censoring the social media?

PAP still tok about engaging the public through social media...driving with brakes on huh?

I think have to cut some slack with the authorities on this matter. Perhaps they worry that someone playing a prank by twitting the DJ and so they have to confirm and make announcement first b4 DJ can announce.

He's in trouble for speaking the damn Truth ..!!! This is a farce.. Mediacorpse and SMRT can go ass fuck each other.. This is not the fault of Hosan Leong.. He was not the one that caused the Train disruptions.. Bloody ridiculous..

actually depending on the gravity of the situation. in today's age and technology...one can easily verify and really if Hosan play a prank, he can be censured thereafter.

of cse if it is like the recent case of ATV (Hong Kong) maliciously announcing the death of Jiang Zemin on TV, they should be given a heavy slap.

They are censuring him for causing a 'loss of face'. He didn't create a hoax.

And even if he did start a hoax, there is no need to censure him. Unless of course, it was stated explicitly in his employment contract that he shouldn't have divulged such incidents.

I think there is some shady backdoor deal between SMRT and Mediacorp. This is the only logical conclusion, however improbable it may seem to be. It stinks to the high heavens.

Today break down, tomorrow resume is disruption. A longer waiting time between 10 and 30 minutes at best can be classified as slight delay. It wasn't long ago quite common to wait about a good 20-30 mins for a taxi. Suddenly now trains slow down and taxis everywhere, talk about perfect timing.
