A horse warrior turned aggressive and attacked a spectator during a performance held at Jurong West Street 51, headbutting him repeatedly even as he tried to flee.

The performance is a traditional 'horse dance' called the Kuda Kepang, which originates from Java. The dance is performed by nine dancers who sit on two dimensional horses made of hide, accompanied by a percussion ensemble.

In an email yesterday (May 4), a shocked STOMPer wrote:

"This took place about three weeks ago, at an event held at Jurong West Street 51.

"A horse 'warrior' turned aggressive and attacked a spectator during the show.

"They started by having him inhale some incense or similar intoxicant, after which his behaviour changed as he appeared to enter a trance.

"His face became stern and fixed in an angry expression, and he began to behave in an animalistic fashion, drinking from a pail of water and chewing on glass.

"There was also a woman bearing a whip that she would use to control him.

"I have no idea how serious the injuries he suffered were, but there were many people attending to him. I didn't see any ambulance either."

In a Kuda Kepang performance, dance troupes are engaged to perform in festivals and special occasions.

Dancers are believed to enter a trance-like state as they perform the dance, allowing them to perform extraordinary feats and becoming seemingly impervious to pain.

Horses don't headbutt people - they use their hindlegs to kick.

On hindsight, if i was the horse warrior, i'll be a stud horse warrior, and rush for the nearest chio bu instead of some fugly old fart.
