Singapore Derby 2012, 2000m, A short course

H8 Deep Pocket 4yo B NZ G Sire Lucky Owners Dam Molly Singer

Not sure it the same lucky owners of HK, if yes, then Deep Pocket would be from Danehill line. Competing in this derby, will Deep Pocket follow his lao peh standard, who won the HK derby 2004? On video, both horses have a good turn of foot, both like to chase front runners down.

With the rain falling for the last 12 hours, surely the kranji race course will be downgraded to at least yielding to soft which Deep Pocket should has an advantage having won on both yielding and soft condition. Having won 1800m in soft despite only a lowly BM61 race, proved that he had no problem staying up to 10 furlongs. My top pick for this race.

it take Trainer Desmond Koh to prove everyone is WRONG!

RACE 1
Not an easy race to kick off with. Roman Knight (4) has been racing well of late. He was successful at this trip two starts back before running second over 1900m last time. He should run well. Beautiful World (1) scored narrowly over 1600m on this track two starts back before an even effort last time and must be respected while Triple Goals (6) scored a dogged on pace victory last time and can repeat the dose here. The Kathumpa (10) enjoyed a good run from the inside draw to land the prize last time and with Joao Moreira staying on board expect a forward showing.

RACE 2
A big field and plenty of chances. A good draw should see Convict (1) being hard to toss again. He was solid in scoring last time over stablemate Afternoon Delight and can back up the form here. Predictable (4) looked home until run down late last time in an improved showing and is worth plenty of thought while Quite A Man (8) finished the race off doggedly last time and must be respected despite the draw. Sacred Emblem (3) scored with authority last time and despite the extra weight should not be discounted.

RACE 3
Even though he’s been winless for a while Incredible Hulk (1) gets his chance to find the winner’s circle again. He ran well when second two starts back before an even fourth last time. Back to this trip is ideal. American Tycoon (11) ran an improved race last time and looks suited in this while Get It (10) can mix his form up but he ran on well last time and the extra distance is a plus. Equience (12) was placed three starts back and hasn’t been too far away in recent assignments and deserves thought.

RACE 4
A tricky race with six of the 16 acceptors lining up for their first starts. Murali (5) is a first starter that has won his only trial and with Joao Moreira on board is expected to run well. Karaka Village (1) was placed in New Zealand before making his way up here and has placed twice in two barrier trials while Dahlhaus (4) is a nicely bred newcomer in good hands and has trialled reasonably. Radiant Roi (6) looks the best of the raced brigade and should appreciate the trip.

RACE 5
Inside barriers should be a big advantage here with only a short run to the first two. Super Kenny (3) was impressive winning on debut and backs up quickly from that win. He’s drawn nicely in barrier five and looks an exciting type. Super Good (2) did the job in fine fashion last time and should strip fitter for the outing while Pitstop (1) won the Golden Horseshoe back in May before a break and returned with a tough effort last time. Expect improvement from the draw. Yin Jie (11) has shown promise in his runs to date and is sure to make his presence felt again.

RACE 6
The step up in distance is likely to be ideal for The Great Grey (1). Made good ground when fourth behind Sonic Blast at his latest outing over 1400m and the rise to 1600m should be ideal. Super Victory (5) was responsible for a solid debut performance and with added experience must be respected while War Time (6) has performed solidly in two runs to date and the rise in distance here should be ideal. Dragon (2) posted an improved performance last time and is well worth another chance.

RACE 7
A most open contest. Devonshire (2) is going to find this a more suitable event. Ran a good second two starts back then was in contention for a Derby start before being made an Emergency Acceptor last time and having to run over an unsuitable trip last time. He’s got a good draw here and Joao Moreira takes the ride. Jack Bauer (5) scored with authority last time and despite the tough draw should not be dismissed while Gold Run (13) will appreciate the shorter trip this time. Chinese Culture (1) looked strong in winning last time and can continue the good work here.

RACE 8
A tricky race. Lightly-raced Jeram Clipper (3) could be hard to run down. A debut winner, his two subsequent starts have been solid. He’s drawn ideally in barrier one and should be hard to run down. World War (4) looked the goods winning on debut and the extra 200m here shouldn’t pose a problem while Tavan Bogd (7) disappointed last time but his previous form was solid and he’s worth another chance. Afternoon Delight (10) tried valiantly last time after a solid win at her previous outing and has claims here.

RACE 9
Flying Fulton (1) can add another feature race to his 2012 tally with victory here. Flying Fulton is a dual Group 3 winner on the Polytrack this year and added a “semi feature” with his win last time over 1800m. This trip looks as far as he wants and despite the draw he should run well. Hard to go past Chase Me (5) who annihilated the opposition in the Emirates Singapore Derby last time out while Black Ice (7) is racing in career best form and from the draw is expected to make a bold bid. Waikato (1) is rarely too far away in a race of this nature and must be respected.

RACE 10
Looking to those at the top of the weights. Can Be Better (1) is dropping back from Class 4 grade to Class 5 company and despite the hefty weight rise will appreciate the weaker grade. El Patron (2) is in a similar boat to Can be Better and from the good draw should get a good run while Surgess (4) has a significant jockey change this time after a good run last time and must be respected. Paragon Angel (3) is still a maiden but has shown some promise and is worthy of thought.

RACE 11
Honest performer Meteor Mike (5) should be hard to run down here. He’s got an excellent 1400m record and with a drop of 5kg on his last win he will be hard to run down. Slither (11) has had the three runs back after a long break and on the minimum here should not be dismissed while What Now (7) produced an even first up performance behind Super Easy and will strip fitter here. Freezemaster (9) returned to form with a strong win last time and is expected to again make a bold bid here.

RACE 12
Not an easy contest to wind up the day. Ravoux (5) did a solid job after leading last time and from the good draw with Joao Moreira on board should be hard to run down. Black Jack (1) has been racing in great heart of late and with the claim should make a bold bid while Dynamic Dan (3) is down in class here and with the claim for Troy See should not be dismissed. Oasis Charm (11) is a lightly-raced galloper who will appreciate the weight drop here and looks a promising type.

Late Mail

Heard that Jockey Saimee is trying . Watch Tote closely Race 3 : No. 4

.
RACE 1
Not an easy race to begin with. Hearts (1) has been racing consistently and last start finished close-up in Class 4 company. Back to maiden grade here suits but he rises 7.5kg in weight here. Grand Asahi (12) is still a maiden after 23 attempts but has been racing well of late while Pasha Khan (10) ran second to Emerald Hill four starts back and if he can repeat that effort should go close here. Jeram Jeram (2) disappointed when up in distance last time but is worth another chance on his previous placing.

RACE 2
Champion jockey Joao Moreira has given a strong lead here with Pioneer Seven (8). Did a respectable job on debut and with the experience under the belt should make a bold bid. Jackpot (4) is coming off a break. Showed promise at first three runs before contesting the Golden Horseshoe in May. He’ll run well while American Gladiator (1) has three placings from his four starts to date and cannot be dismissed. Machfive (7) is a first starter with the Michael Freedman stable and has trialled soundly for his debut.

RACE 3
A tough race with a number of hopes. Fat King (1) will appreciate the drop in grade and should be tough to stop. Ran second in a Class 3 race some four starts back and while up in weight has drawn OK and must be respected. Arrow To Post (3) has had the two runs back following a spell and with Joao Moreira on board from barrier one should be hard to beat while Flying Ahead (4) has been freshened since his latest outing and is expected to be hitting the line strongly. Volkov (2) was disappointing last time but his previous form had been solid and is well worth another chance.

RACE 4
An open and tricky race with some good hopes. Probo Chandroso (2) tried bravely last time when run down by Magic Diva. The claim for Tan Wei Li brings him in nicely here and a forward showing is expected. Pegasus Victory (1) has been racing well in this class of late and just missed last time while Lucky Sun (7) hasn’t been too far away in recent assignments and should make a bold bid in this line-up. Whydoyouask (9) scored a solid win against similar opposition last time and while up in weight should make a bold bid also.

RACE 5

Looks a suitable race for El Padrino (2) which raced as Ip Man last preparation. He returned to racing with a good first up effort on July 13 and with added fitness is expected to go close. Makkura (5) has done nothing wrong in her only two starts to date in Singapore and should again figure prominently while Yoyo (9) is a handy sprinter on his day and fresh up here cannot be dismissed. Al’s Knight (1) is another that is rarely too far away in this grade and despite the wide draw should make his presence felt.

RACE 6
Despite the poor draw it looks a suitable race for Chun Doong (1). Last two have been on the turf and he did wobble about last time. Senior jockey Alan Munro takes over here and he’s expected to run well. Vitalico (8) has been racing consistently and with Joao Moreira in the saddle he’s expected to figure prominently while Seasons Wonder (4) raced on the speed and fought on well last time and won’t be too far away again. Roman Empire (5) boxed on soundly last time and with the weight drop here from a good draw should make a bold bid.

RACE 7
A drop in weight and a favourable barrier draw all points to Jeram Glory (4) being tough to hold out here. He’s finished second at his past two outings when collared late and should be in the firing line for a long way here. Excuse My Friends (1) lost his position mid-race before running on again late last time so the small field here suits while The Cinderella Man (2) is racing in great heart and a forward showing is again expected. Positive Thinking (6) has a win and three placings to his credit from his last five outings and while up in grade should again make his presence felt.

RACE 8

A good race with some in form gallopers engaged. Emerald Hill (8) has done nothing wrong to date in his three outings and can measure up to the tougher grade. However he’s not going to find it easy with Speedy Cat (1) racing in good form and which looks better off back to this trip while Emblessed (6) has won his last four starts and can certainly take that next step up here. Niceone (9) has won four of his last five starts and from the good draw with not much weight is expected to run well.

RACE 9
Honest campaigner Tenuponten (5) gets his chance to break back into winning form. Has filled a placing at his past three outings and looks well suited here from the good draw. True North (2) recorded a strong maiden win last time and can back up the form here while Baby Face (3) has been around the mark in similar company of late and is expected to make a bold bid here. Magic Ocean (4) disappointed last time but his previous win was good and is expected to figure prominently here.

RACE 1

Kamar Dancer (2) has been around the mark without winning of late. Backs up after his second to Atlixco last Sunday but is sure to be in this for a long way. Enzo (1) is fairly handy in this company and deserves some consideration here. Not the most reliable but should be right there in the mix if things go his way. It’s been a long time between drinks for Mongolian Star (6). On his recent good run, he should be thereabouts. Each-way claims. Golden Lido (3) probably needs more ground but if the pace is on he could finish in the top four.

RACE 2
Jonathan (3) showed he was not without ability at a barrier trial on July 26 when a neck-second to Angry Cat. Can run a forward race at debut. Another newcomer War Lord (8) comes in with fair barrier trial form and could run a smart race first-up. Idealistic Moment (2) did make some ground towards the end at his debut. Would have benefitted from that run and can make his presence felt in this small affair. Victory Wings (7) is backing up from his fair eighth at debut last Friday. Improvement expected.

RACE 3
Last time out, Rock Art (7) dead-heated with Jet Ace who went on to win last Sunday. Looks hard to beat in this ordinary field. King’s Friend (4) raced in good company before he was spelled. If he goes well fresh, he could have a strong say in this. Zac Heaven (5) had every chance at his last run but was fairly one-paced in the home straight. Worth another chance. That’s Gold (2) was defeated by some handy sorts at his last few runs. Faces a weaker lot here. Can surprise.

RACE 4
First Express (2) should be a major force to reckon with here after his closing second to Audio Friend at his last start and gets his chance to shed maiden status. After a string of promising runs, Ktronic (4) has seen his form nosedive in recent runs. Is better than that and can redeem himself especially with no weight on his back. Destiny Action (1) mixes his form. Third to Mr Big in Magic Millions Juvenile Championship in 2011, but has not quite lived up to promise. On his best form, he can fight out the finish here. Burn It Up (6) ran his best race to-date last time out. Showed early pace only to weaken late and while he steps up to 1600m, he is an outside chance.

RACE 5
Super Velox (6) is overdue for a win and looks the goods here. Blinkers seem to have done the trick on Dos Equis (3). Will be running on and is a leading hope. One On One (10) is not the worst here and has place claims while Subdue (9) has performed soundly of late and looks a threat in an open race.

RACE 6
Ignore Wonder General’s (4) last run when he missed the start and came back with debris in his trachea. Previous form was solid and can redeem himself. Chinese Tycoon (1) is still looking for his maiden success after 16 outings, but his recent starts with blinkers on suggest his turn is not far off. Go close. With two seconds at his last three runs, Zac Imperial (5) seems to be one of the better contenders in this moderate field, though his record of 1 win in 44 starts is admittedly not all that flash. Win Lots (8) is capable on his day and is worth thought in this line-up.

RACE 7
Forgiven (3) was simply outclassed in the Singapore Derby. The yielding track probably did not suit. This is more up his alley as he is reverting to Polytrack, over which he scored four of his five wins and can bounce back to better things here. Encosta Diablo (2) has had two runs under the belt but over distances not made to suit. Was making ground steadily at his last outing and must be kept safe. There was plenty to like about the way Steadfast Warrior (6) powered to the line at his last run. Not the best on Polytrack, though but has place claims. Last-start winner Vaya Condios (8) will find this tougher but if he gets his way in front, he will be hard to run down.

RACE 8
Nothing much to write home about here. The good runs for Pack A Punch (1) are few and far between but he did show some ability at a few starts. Can figure here. Get It (9) is backing up from last Sunday’s fair run. Previous record was better and is not without a chance here. Distinct Niche (6) seems to handle Polytrack better these days though he scored his only win over this trip on turf, albeit more than a year ago. Dan Noble (5) is a veteran of 68 starts and though his latest runs have been average, he is right in his element here and can bounce back to form.

RACE 9
Country Club (8) is fairly consistent and scored her last win over the same trip and surface. This is a touch easier and she may finish closer this time. Maple Star (5) is resuming. Previous form was on the rise but he went backwards at his last start when caught deep before being rested. Won a nice trial on July 31 and has a fair chance first-up. Squall Line (3) came with a well-timed run to bounce back to his best at his last outing. Still in good nick and cannot be ignored here. U Got It (1) seems to have lost his form, but he did serve notice of a return to his best when he tried to make all at his last start but he then weakened out of it. Not without a chance.

RACE 1
An even bunch to kick off racing. Reciprocate (1) should go close. Was a winner in this grade three starts back and two subsequent efforts have been solid. Despite the weight rise he should go close. Oil Baron (8) has been around the mark in recent assignments and should again figure prominently while Happy More (3) did a good job to win last time and despite the weight rise has to have claims again. Equience (9) has two placings to his credit from his last four starts and won’t be far away against this lot.

RACE 2
Four first starters in the 11 horse line-up make for a tricky affair. Angry Cat (1) has two trial wins under the belt in preparation for his debut and is sure to make his presence felt. Cavallo (2) had trialled OK before a pleasing debut third and is sure to make his presence felt while Philanthropist (6) lost his rider last time but his debut run was solid on top of some handy trial performances. Dragon Player (3) has trialled nicely for his debut and from the draw must be respected.

RACE 3
A positive barrier draw should play into the hands of Brown Shadow (3). Was a winner in similar company three runs back and subsequent efforts have been strong. American Vision (5) bolted in five starts back and his form since has been sound and despite the draw should run well while Arapuni (6) gets back onto the Polytrack here after three turf runs and improvement is expected. Spyder (1) has had the two runs since arriving from Argentina and should be ready to produce his best.

RACE 4
Two runs from a spell and getting back to the Polytrack should be ideal for Darcistar (1). Did a good job two starts back behind Gusha and after the claim for Jacky Low doesn’t look too badly off. D’Creator (3) was responsible for a solid debut performance and with improvement expected from the run must be respected while Theology (10) made some good ground on debut and with the rise in distance must not be discarded. Te Akau King (6) is another that ran well on debut and from the good draw should not be dismissed.

RACE 5
Looks a suitable race for Darian Gap (3). Hit the line nicely last time and the rise to 1900m here looks ideal. Lucky Rise (1) can mix his form but his last two performances have been solid and with the rise in distance must be respected while Irish Flash (8) toughed it out well last time and is sure to again make a bold bid. Iro Otoko (4) is a strong stayer and although back in distance is certain to make a bold bid.

RACE 6
A drop to Class 5 grade should be ideal for Can Be Better (1). Wasn’t too far away last time in tougher company and with the claim here is expected to run well. Lucky Sun (10) is getting on in years but has been a model of consistency of late and should make a bold bid while Hellolo (9) is still a maiden but did a sound job in this grade three starts back and must be considered. Good Day (8) ran a forward race last time and although back in distance should not be left out of calculations.

RACE 7
A drop in distance and coming back to the Polytrack looks ideal for Terminator (2). Form had been solid before his flop over 1400m and although drawn a little awkwardly must be considered. Totality (1) has been racing well and while facing up to the Polytrack under race conditions for the first time he has trialled well while Royal Coffee (5) looked the goods with his debut win in Singapore and must be respected. Californian Star (4) is on the quick back-up after a good win last week and must again have claims.

RACE 8
Another modest line-up. Jack The Bull (1) won his maiden two starts back then wasn’t disgraced last time. This is not strong and he’s expected to go close. Sacred Prince (3) did a good job two starts then disappointed last time. He’s well worth another chance while Dolce Vita (9) has claims on his placing in maiden grade two starts back as this is not strong. Knight Kingdom (5) is another that has been mixing his form but on his third placing three starts should not be dismissed.

RACE 9
The addition of pacifiers to the blinkers already worn by Tavan Bogd (3) will see him hard to hold out. Overall form is solid despite a poor showing two starts back. From a good draw he’s expected to run well. Winning Success (7) hasn’t been too far away in recent assignments and the rise in distance here suits while Daring Fighter (2) led and fought on soundly last time and back to this trip is a plus. Daad’s The Way (1) is rarely too far away in a race of this nature and also must be respected.

RACE 10
A repeat of his latest outing will see Wassaic (1) being hard to beat. He chased gamely behind El Milagro last time and with Greg Cheyne in the saddle should go close. Lucky Xuan (4) disappointed last time but his previous form had been excellent while Golden Curl (2) has two wins from his last four starts and with the claim for Wong Wei Xiang is expected to go close. Imacruiser (6) has put in solid performances at his last two outings and should not be discounted either.

RACE 11
A tough way to finish. Rock You (2) has finished second at his last three outings and looks well placed here to break through. Has come up with a good barrier and on paper this looks an easier assignment. Sir Fleetwood (7) tried hard last time despite over-racing in the middle stages and must be considered while Danger Money (8) did a good job to win last time and despite the class rise is sure to run well. Magic Diva (10) was another to win in weaker grade last time and with the weight drop here should go close.
