Have to renew my contract for home broadband connection & the cheapest deal seems to be with Singtel at $36.90/month without a modem. The prices for basic connection has gone up:( However the hyped "promised" speed has not:rolleyes:

Is there a better deal out there:confused: I'm not looking at the bundled deals e.g. with television, computers, ....etc. since it's now the Great Spore Sale & I can many bargains elsewhere ;)

there's one company called whatever Republic that has broadband like under 20 bucks, right ?

ever see in newspapers leh.................

The ads I've seen for Starhhub's prices for their fibre plans are pretty expensive:eek: I wonder how many people are willing to pay $100+ per month.
I'll take a look at what Republic has to offer but from what I've seen the price for connection is going up & not down:(

M1 cheapest fibre 100Mps under 2 year contract $39
Free home fix line
Free 1GB/month mobile data with new sim card
Free rental box for one year.

Since I don't really need that fast a conection speed e.g. 100+ Mbps, I can live with the lower speeds of 25Mbps being offered by M1 for $39/month:) Republic only offers one speed, 100Mbps for $59/month.

Would have preferred to stay with Singtels ADSL or Starhub because I can re-use some old equipment & wiring. Switching to fibre will require me to purchase a new router & some home plugs. However I notice that Singtel is not offering competitve pricing:rolleyes: There have also been some problems with their network

If you are a subscriber of MioTV, ADSL does not provide an adequate connection. Fibre is preferred. Suggest you explore some bundling plans with discounts on your family's mobile phone usage.

Same ol' fuck up excuses about why the mobile bb cannot reached its promised speed as advertised - traffic. KNN traffic my problem ah. These ppl then go down to 50% of what they promised as 'acceptable'. In Sinkiesland, nothing works anymore !

Starhub has got the cheek to introduce its 'TV' service while one is on the move. One chap forked it as "can't make it". Everyone's forkin the ISPs here.

StarHub TV customers will be able to watch their favourite TV channels across multiple screens, anytime, anywhere with its new value-added service called TV Anywhere. With the launch of the Internet TV platform starhubtv.com, TV Anywhere will be a key service offering, giving viewers access to cable TV channels across Internet-enabled PC, Mac, iPad or tablet, with their current subscription plan.

I suspect the real motive the gov't is pushing fibre is so that the ISPs can offer movies through the internet;)
I doubt the local market is big enough to support so many movie providers. Just another example of scholars dabbling in the market:rolleyes:

I already subscribe to cable via Starhub & that's why I'm looking for the cheapest, no frills connection to the internet. Unfortunately the cost of connection has gone up because all the ISPs are offering useless & expensive "packages". The latest gimmick is for "fast" fibre connection:D Unfortunately the same problem we see with clogged roads & packed trains is also being seen on our slow internet :(

Checked their website & found out that the free connection offered is only until Dec 31st 2012. In Spore there is always some kind of "small print" whenever something is "FREE" ;)

If you dont mind, can try M1.

Thanks, it looks like M1 currently has the best deal that best suits my needs.

Singtel still has cheaper rates for their 6Mbps connection, but M1 is only $2.10 more for their 25Mbps connection. I'm ready to jump ship because of the intermittent problems I've encountered recently with Singtel. The contract with M1 is also shorter than Sintel. 1 year vs Singtels 2 years.

the free internet is always till end of year. i have used it for many years already.

I've noticed that something is "free" because it's very cheap to offer such services. That's why I'm surprised that out internet costs are going up:(
I miss the days of sub- $30 monthly rates, but someone has to pay those GLCs their million dollar salaries:rolleyes:

I also don't think they will remove the free services but I'm willing to pay $ to avoid being caught in some policy change:) The more that I think about it, the more curious I've become about fibre. Since the lock in is only 1 year I can always switch.

lucky i kept my Singnet broadband plan.............5-6 mbps only but enough for me..............$23 a month..........

Actually I'm only paying $21.40 per month. This was the rate I got from the PC show almost 2 years ago.

I'd assumed that when a contract ends they take the opportunity to charge their latest & higher rates. If they continue to charge me the old rate I will just continue with Singtel, otherwise I will go with another service.

Just renew the existing plan. Price will be the same or cheaper if you dont want modem.
That why I have continue contract for existing plan for few year. Every year when they try to charge me higher rate when contract expired I just call up to recontract existing plan.
U just need to calll service hotline they will renew contract up to u for 1 year or 2 year price will remain same.
Now I using internet plan that not more being offer.
Also my mobile plan no more offer in new plan. Very happy stick with old plan.

I doubt the price will go down because they want to encourage people to move to fibre as theres more $$ in it for them.

If I can continue to pay the old rate of $22 I'll stick with Singtel despite the problems:o Will of course keep an eye on fibre to see if users find it better.

Just to update. I've contacted Singtel to find out more about my options. They tell me that I can continue to pay the original rate of $21.40 by simply NOT re-contacting:)

I am happy with this as all the new plans are more costly than what I'm paying now. However they all "promise" faster speeds. Knowing that hype that is common in Spore I'm skeptical of these promises;)
Will of course be interested to find out if users connecting to US sites are experiencing faster speeds because that's where I usually visit e.g. online trading.
