控方指出，已婚的被告與84歲女事主相識，但庭上未有透露二人關係。辯方申請以500元保釋被拒，被告還押至5月18日在屯門裁判法院提訊，其間等候DNA化驗。
中大精神科學系教授李誠說，本港絕少強姦老婦個案，形容事主心理需要或有異。他表示，一般情况下強姦犯侵害女性並非純為滿足性慾，而是藉此控制女性得到征服感或滿足感，強姦對象與年齡沒有必然關係，「有時會選小妹妹下手，有時或選老婦」。

城大犯罪學副教授黃成榮推斷疑犯有3種可能：工作或性能力低於常人，或生活潦倒被社會遺忘，內心鬱結，選擇侵犯老婦報復；第二是仇恨受害者，透過強姦報復；第三是有較嚴重戀母傾向，精神或心理出問題。他強調須視乎犯人及受害者背景，才能有全面判斷。

過去強姦長者案件多涉及搶劫。資料顯示，去年8月一名65歲老婦在元朗八鄉錦莆路晨運時，突遭年約30歲的壯漢挾持跨過3道圍欄拉到僻靜天橋底，當時消息稱，歹徒強行脫掉老婦褲子企圖強姦。事主激烈反抗，色魔未能得逞遁去。老婦逃出魔掌後立即報警，事後送院檢驗。2010年9月，76歲老婦聲稱遭兩名蒙面男子進入其落馬洲住所強姦。2008年，一名85歲老婦獨自沿柴灣道步行上山晨運時，遭蛇匪箍頸拖入草叢，持刀要脅施暴，女事主拚命反抗，淫賊未能得逞，劫走一枚戒指及60元現金後逃去。
此外，廣州亦曾發生類似事件，91歲婆婆被姦劫後再被殺害。今年2月，一名年僅19歲的青年晚上回家時，突然闖入91歲老婦家中將她強姦，並大肆搜掠屋內財物，因恐害怕對方指證，遂將老婦殺害。
