据悉，香港警方在14日及15日，分别于旺角、马鞍山、深水埗、牛头角、黄大仙，以涉嫌串谋侮辱国旗拘捕4男1女，年龄介于20至22岁。警方从疑犯住所带走了计算机、电话及衣物等物品，以做进一步调查。
本月3日及5日，先后有极端激进分子降下尖沙咀天星码头五支旗杆处悬挂的中华人民共和国国旗，并将国旗扔到海里。香港特别行政区《国旗及国徽条例》第七条规定，任何人公开及故意以焚烧、毁损、涂划、玷污、践踏等方式侮辱国旗或国徽，即属犯罪，一经定罪，可处第5级罚款及监禁3年。
据《文汇报》报道，香港警方有组织罪案及三合会调查科人员经深入调查，锁定一伙在侮辱国旗案中涉及不同角色的目标人物，于8月14日及15日收网，在旺角、马鞍山、深水埗、牛头角及黄大仙共拘捕5名男女。其中姓周男子在黄大仙东头邨被捕。
警方介绍，被捕的4男1女，年龄在20岁至22岁之间，其中一男子名为周颂轩（22岁），报称是装修工人。其余4人中，有两人姓洪、一人姓王及一人姓符。嫌犯中大部分有职业，无人是学生身份，但部分人与“港独”组织成员关系密切，他们涉嫌串谋侮辱国旗被扣查，警方在嫌犯住所内检获涉案电脑、电话及一些衣物，待进一步调查。
