Hong Kong government urged to scrap travel bubble plan with Singapore​

HONG KONG - Hong Kong lawmakers on Friday (July 9) urged the government to give up plans for a travel bubble with Singapore, given the Republic's strategy shift towards learning to live with Covid-19, local media reported.
At a Legislative Council meeting, lawmakers said Hong Kong must hold onto its goal of maintaining zero local Covid-19 infections, so that travel between the territory and the mainland can resume as soon as possible, public broadcaster RTHK reported.
Roundtable lawmaker Michael Tien said Hong Kong should not offer quarantine-free travel to people from places that do not have the same "Covid zero" target.
"The mainland will not tolerate any loopholes at our airport. If Singapore really changes its anti-pandemic target, the government can stop talking to the country about setting up a travel bubble," he said.
As Singapore's vaccination campaign gathers pace, the government's stance has shifted towards learning to live with the virus rather than pursuing a so-called Covid-Zero approach of eliminating it altogether.
Alice Mak of the Federation of Trade Unions said a travel bubble would be beneficial to the tourism industry, but she said "the cost would be too high" if it jeopardises Hong Kong's pandemic situation

Hong Kongers are right to call mainlanders locusts. When mainlanders first open up, it was HKers leading the charge in investments, bringing factories and employment to commiecunts. Money flows from HK to the mainland when mainlanders did not have any reputation for investor confidence. Not that they have now anyway.

When mainland was stikes with tragedies, HK poured donations and help into the affected areas in mainland. And what did HK people get in the end? I believe there are two underlying issues.

Lately, we just discredited Sinovac. The HK government could be part of the retaliation.

Secondly, for the sake of Singapore Airlines, Changi Airport & CECA, we will eventually stop reporting on non-hospitalized covid cases and "live with it". Of course, the feeling is like marrying a slut for the HKers, so I understand their reservations.

It will NEVER succeed. If all it takes is just money to prop up to be a financial center, Shanghai would have taken over HK long ago. However, the real deciding factor is the transparency of its law and its application and fairness. Not to mention, its language. HK being a former British colony has common laws and all these traits. This is why even Japan having transparent financial laws, but lack English language, cannot replace HK. Shanghai and Shenzhen or whatever shit from CCP can go fly kite.

I think the capital control have hurt China.
If the capital control in China wasn't so strict and prohibitive, plus the Rule of law wasn't transparent at all..

Singapore would have to go back to Malaysia.
