今年二月初，香港拯救貓狗協會收到一對領養人通知，指去年十二月所領養的貓兒Santa及秋兒，前者因卡在床底與床褥之間，遭到夾斷骨後而死亡；後者因身體多處受傷而退回。負責人Linda表示，被退回的秋兒傷勢明顯，兩顆門牙被撞脫、半臉腫起、尾巴脫毛且有傷痕，對方更聲稱是因為秋兒被其他貓追打受傷，直言：「被貓追打到門牙都甩，醫生都話只有好大撞擊才會發生。」她認為短時間有兩貓遭到如此傷害，非常可疑，於是報警。
動物機構紛列兩人入黑名單
Linda指事隔七個月後，本周一收到警方回覆，僅指事件經調查後證據不足，無法起訴涉案人。為追查真相，協會事發後曾為Santa安排屍體解剖和化驗以了解死因，並帶另一隻受傷的秋兒求醫研究傷勢，但最後只換來警方「證據不足」，未有解釋當中情況，故致電警方追問調查過程。

關注動物權益的議員鄺俊宇表示，律政司多次在證據確鑿之下，放生虐待動物疑兇，而且一直未有解釋沒有作出起訴的原因，令人難以理解，直言：「警察高調拉人，但律政司卻轉頭放人，令關注事件各界人士難以理解及接受，應該向公眾交代不起訴的理由。」他擔心，律政司此舉會助長日後虐待動物的風氣。
警方發言人表示，牛頭角警署於今年二月十六日接獲一間機構女職員報案，指一對夫婦早前向其機構領養一隻貓，其後該隻貓死去，懷疑曾被人不恰當對待。警方接報到場，經初步調查後發現該貓隻身上並沒有表面傷痕，案件列作「動物屍體發現」處理。警方及後已將相關化驗報告及調查結果呈交律政司索取法律意見，律政司經考慮證據後決定不就案件提出起訴。
