警方今日(25日)凌晨就沙田瀝源邨釀成1死5傷的3級火交代詳情。沙田警區潘岳謙總督察(刑事)表示，警方昨日(24日)下午4時03分接報，指沙田瀝源邨榮瑞樓5樓一單位發生火警，消防接報到場，未幾把火警升為3級，並於下午5時41分將火救熄，火警原因仍需調查。火警中共疏散300人，並在5樓一單位發現一名姓陳(37歲)男子當場死亡；另有2男3女(73至94歲)分別因吸入濃煙不適及受傷送院，案件暫列作火警及發現屍體處理。
同時，警方已聯同民政事務處及社會福利署，為受影響居民提供協助，當中有50名居民需要到瀝源邨社區會堂暫住。由於火警中有一名男子被發現死亡，故火警由沙田警區重案組接手調查。據悉，姓陳死者為一名無業男子，2年前由內地來港，與來港6年及4年的父母，以及姓梁祖母(94歲)同住；陳8年前開始患有抑鬱及躁狂症，曾經求診，而該單位以往並無家暴記錄。
根據警方進一步調查，相信於昨日早上，該名無業漢病發與母親爭執，其母隨後離開單位，至昨日下午約3時半，無業漢再度情緒激動，將一隻煮食的鑊擲向祖母，致其左腳背割傷；祖母離開上址，並向樓下保安員求助報警。
約於下午3時45分，該單位傳出敲打木頭及爆玻璃聲響，至下午4時該單位發生火警並有濃煙冒出，住客紛紛報警求助。潘續指，肇事單位因無燈光及受火警影響產生高溫，水渠遭燒熔導致爆水渠，故男死者被發現時被水淹浸，在場人員須將積水抽走，始可進行詳細調查及對死者遺體作初步檢視。經初步檢查後，死者無表面傷痕，死因有待剖屍確定，探員會聯同鑑證科人員，將於今日稍後時間返回現場作深入調查及搜證。據了解，事發時無業漢獨自在單位內，而現場有助燃劑，至於屬何種助燃劑，仍須跟進查明。
