Hong Kong has been gripped by another photo scandal, after racy images featuring policewomen were taken from a blog and splashed across the territory's newspapers.

The photographs - which numbered more than 100 - showed Hong Kong policewomen touching a colleague's breasts, dressed in their underwear, pointing guns at each other and pulling up their skirts.

They were uploaded onto the personal blog of a 25-year-old female constable who joined the force in 2007, officials said.

Racy images ... the photographs were uploaded by a 25-year-old policewoman who joined Hong Kong's police force in 2007.

Media coverage of the blog - called "the diary of a policewoman" - prompted local authorities to launch an internal inquiry.

"Police will not tolerate any conduct that damages the force's reputation," Hong Kong police said in a statement published in the South China Morning Post newspaper.

"An internal investigation has been launched into the incident," Assistant Police Commissioner Alan Fan Sik-ming, the Kowloon West regional commander, told the Post.

He said the blogger, stationed at Sham Shui Po on the Kowloon Peninsula, was not suspended and was performing her normal duties.

While Hong Kong's police code does not bar officers from taking photographs while at work, it specifies that any behaviour should not harm the force's reputation, the Post said.

Benjamin Tsang Chiu-fo of the Hong Kong Police Inspectors Association told the Post police needed to watch their behaviour whether they were on or off duty "because the public have high expectations of them".

Controversial photos involving Hong Kong's police force are not new.

Last November, a photo showing a policeman's relative pointing a handgun at him in jest was published in a local newspaper.

And in 2009 there was consternation over a series of photos showing a couple, both police officers, in romantic poses while on a bicycle patrol.

Hong Kong celebrities have not been immune from photo scandals either. In 2008, the emergence of photos of actor-singer Edison Chen performing sex acts with eight Hong Kong actresses and singers on the internet sparked outrage in the southern Chinese territory.
