【星島日報報道】廉政公署前高級調查主任因未能晉升總主任而失望離職，詎料轉攻投資市場後招來近700萬元巨債，無力交租養家。他於前年10月萌生死意，在寓所趁妻子及一對孖仔熟睡時燒炭自殺，幸住宅保安員及時揭發，一家四口均無生命危險。前主任承認1項為危害生命而施用有害物品罪及2項虐兒罪，今早在高等法院被判囚2年。
案發於前年10月30日凌晨，51歲被告翁志偉在觀塘月華街「觀月．樺峯」寓所內，趁30歲妻子及一對5歲孖仔熟睡時燒炭。被告吸入一氧化碳昏迷送院救治，留院3日後出院，其妻兒則無大礙。被告在警誡下承認燒炭自殺，但強調無意連累妻兒，相反希望他們可藉保險公司的賠償金過活。

[Sing Tao Daily reported] The former Senior Investigation Officer of the Independent Commission Against Corruption was disappointed to leave because of his failure to be promoted to the Director General. He was expected to reap the investment market and attracted nearly 7 million yuan of huge debts, unable to pay rent to support the family. He died in October of the previous year. He burned charcoal at the apartment, his wife and a pair of clams. When the house security guards revealed it, the family of four was not life-threatening. The former director pleaded guilty to one count of crimes of endangering life and two counts of child abuse. He was sentenced to two years in the High Court this morning.
The case was made in the early morning of October 30 of the previous year. The 51-year-old defendant, Weng Zhiwei, was in the "Wuyue. Huafeng" apartment in Yuehua Street, Kwun Tong. The 30-year-old wife and a pair of 5-year-old clams burned charcoal when they were asleep. The defendant inhaled a carbon monoxide coma and was sent to hospital for treatment. He was discharged from hospital after 3 days, and his wife and children were fine. The defendant pleaded guilty to charcoal suicide, but stressed that he did not intend to have his wife and children. Instead, he hoped that they could live with the insurance company's compensation.
