Chinese had always lived in crowded filthy conditions by choice , in Chinatowns globally , even in Sinkie Chinatown ...it’s common for 10 to live in a single room ...except for the very few farming community almost the bulk of chinese lived in crowded conditions

it’s the same story all over south east Asia too ...the natives such as the Malays would normally love inland in spacious kampongs but never the chinese they usually line the urban area in shophouses in clutters with all the filth including cockroaches and rats

just saw a documentary in CNA about our hawker culture where the Pioneer architect talks about after vacating the Hawkers in Chinatowns , he records that he witnessed thousands and thousands of rats scurrying around the empty streets
