The shipyard and construction industries in HK has very strong "unions" which are managed by triads. In sinkapore, the SS only cover industries left out by PAP - KTVs and Geylang.

MOre over the weather is colder there and less suffering to work in the open.

As a former site foreman and supervisor, i can tell you that the atrociously hot and humid weather here be it back breaking construction work or supervisoring and checks is not justified by the pay we are getting. Although the bonus sometimes is high but thats because no one wants to work in this industry. If you factor the dangerous environment and the increased future illness from dust and sun rays - the pay should have been 4-5k for starters instead of 2.5-3k.

Only the ministers have minimm wages in SINkingpore, plus....the whatever "members"...and peg to the private sector....and rises, rises only to some mior adjustments during the bad times...but rises very quickly when economy is perceived to be good....
