The NTUC FairPrice Foundation has pledged this year, to give S$1 million worth of food vouchers to the needy.

The vouchers will be distributed through grassroots organisations.

The foundation's chairman Ng Ser Miang said while many families will be able to reap the benefits of the economic recovery, there are still families who need a helping hand.

FairPrice first launched the NTUC FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme in 2002, to help needy families cope with the economic slowdown.

During the downturn last year, the foundation donated more than S$9 million to the community mainly to help needy families meet daily essential needs and to help advance the welfare of workers.

Since its inception in 2008, FairPrice Foundation has donated over S$18 million to help provide a better life for the community.
